Job Description
Location: UK Based, Remote-first (with monthly travel to London)

At Unmind, we're here to create better mental health.

Now we’re looking for more brilliant people to help us do it.

We’re building a place where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported – and where difference is celebrated.

🎯 The Role - Research Scientist
As a Research Scientist, you'll join a small, ambitious team of researchers, psychologists and consultants advancing the science of digital mental health care. Built on academic rigour, we're evolving how we leverage rich in-product datasets to surface impact.
Your role bridges clinical research, data science and commercial impact — analysing our products from clinical, organisational and financial impact perspectives. You'll work across a range of research, from in-product data analysis to bespoke client studies, complementing traditional designs with real-world data at scale to quantify return on investment (ROI) and provide clients with an evidence-based picture of how Unmind transforms workplace wellbeing. You'll also collaborate with Product, Data, Commercial teams and leading academic partners.
In this role, you’ll get to:
Own: Drive the execution and analytical heavy lifting for studies that evaluate the impact of Unmind. You will lead study design, data cleaning and statistical modelling to turn raw clinical data into rigorous evidence that strengthens our business case.
Collaborate: Partner with Product, Data and Commercial teams to ensure research is integrated into the product lifecycle and commercial strategy. You will work cross-functionally to run bespoke client studies and integrate external data with our in-product datasets to provide tailored, high impact
Disseminate: While academic publication remains part of our DNA, you will focus mainly on helping to translate findings into impactful internal reports and client-facing decks. Your work will also help to inform data-driven business decisions.
Share: You’ll represent Unmind in a variety of settings - either in person or virtually - giving engaging and inspiring presentations. You’ll also have the opportunity to coordinate with our commercial and science comms teams to help communicate and disseminate our research findings to a wider lay audience.
🌟 About You
We firmly believe that no-one is the finished article and that there should be learning in every role you do. So some of the role will be learning as you go, and we hope that’s exactly what you are looking for. However, some experience in the following is important for the role:
Qualifications: A Master's or PhD in psychology, health outcomes, clinical research or a related data science field.
Programming & Analytical Techniques: Proficiency in R (with a preference for an additional language, e.g. Python or SQL), alongside a broad statistical toolkit spanning, for example, data visualisation, causal inference, mixed effects models, regression, missing data methods, and model comparison.
Research Design & Methodology: A solid command of study design and methodology, with the ability to confidently advise on structuring data collection to ensure statistically sound results across a variety of research contexts.
Workplace Wellbeing Knowledge: An understanding of how employee mental health drives organisational outcomes — including productivity, absenteeism, retention and healthcare costs — underpinned by familiarity with the broader evidence base linking mental health to business performance.
Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to translate complex data and research findings into compelling narratives and visualisations for non-technical and non-scientific audiences.
Delivery & Project Management: A hands-on, roll-your-sleeves-up approach to getting things done to a high standard, with the ability to plan, prioritise and simultaneously deliver multiple projects — often across several client datasets at once — with autonomy and rigour.
Tip for candidates: If you’re unsure whether to apply – do. We know great people don't always tick every box.
