Job Description

This is a standout opportunity to join United Utilities as a Process Controller at the largest bioresource site in the UK and the largest Thermal Hydrolysis Process facility in Europe. Based at Manchester Bioresource Centre in Davyhulme, a lower tier COMAH site, you will work in an advanced, safety critical environment where operational excellence truly matters.

From day one, you will be part of a highly structured, high performing team filled with experience, knowledge and people who genuinely enjoy what they do. Day to day, you will work closely with a small direct team, while also collaborating with a wider network of Process Controllers and Field Service Engineers. There is strong support, shared learning and a culture where everyone pulls together to get the job done.

This is also a team with personality. There is professionalism, pride in the work and an environment where people look out for one another while delivering results.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Process Controller, you will be right at the centre of a complex, high performing operational environment where what you do genuinely matters. You will take ownership of critical wastewater and sludge treatment processes, continually monitoring how the site is performing, interpreting data and spotting patterns before they become problems. Your decisions will help keep assets safe, compliant and operating at their best, protecting both people and the environment.

This role suits someone who stays calm when the pressure is on, thinks logically and acts practically. You will be comfortable working in high-risk environments and confined spaces, confident making sound decisions and driven by a desire to understand the process in depth. Over time, you will build real expertise, becoming a trusted subject matter expert within the team.

The role includes a 20% shift allowance and requires participation in a structured team shift rota.

  • Complete planned cyclic tasks on time and accurately record and manage reactive tasks

  • Produce reliable, accurate and complete asset performance information to inform operational decisions
  • Analyse recurring process issues, identify trends and recommend effective long term solutions
  • Work towards an accredited qualification or standard relevant to your role, alongside comprehensive health and safety, technical and behavioural training

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Strong numeracy skills and confidence working with data, identifying trends and taking practical, solution focused action using a range of digital systems
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently, remaining calm, resilient and focused under pressure
  • Well developed diagnostic, planning and organisational skills to manage complex plant operations
  • Ability to clearly communicate information and data to colleagues across operations, maintenance and technical teams
  • Knowledge of safe systems of work, company policy, statutory regulations, operational procedures, maintenance processes and administration

Essential Requirement

  • Full driving licence is essential for this role
