Job Description

At United Utilities, the quality of our data plays a vital role in delivering reliable water services to millions of customers. We are looking for a talented and detail driven GIS Network Advisor to join our team and play a key role in maintaining the accuracy, integrity and performance of our network information.

This is an exciting opportunity for a GIS professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with stakeholder collaboration. You will be responsible for ensuring our network boundaries, asset connectivity and associated GIS data accurately reflect operational reality, supporting business critical decisions across the organisation.

Working closely with operational teams and technical specialists, you will help maintain high quality geographical data, resolve complex network queries and contribute to the ongoing evolution of our GIS platforms and processes.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Maintain and manage water boundaries, District Metered Areas (DMA), Discreet Pressure Areas (DPA) and Water Supply Zones (WSZ) within GIS, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Translate network and asset changes from operational teams into accurate and timely GIS updates.
  • Investigate complex data queries and collaborate with stakeholders across the business to resolve issues relating to GIS network representation.
  • Provide first line GIS support, helping colleagues understand and utilise network boundaries and asset information effectively.
  • Partner with stakeholders to continuously improve GIS processes and ensure data outputs meet operational and business requirements.
  • Produce, analyse and interpret a range of reports to support data quality, performance monitoring and operational decision making.
  • Work closely with Water Data Maintainers to understand the impact of network updates and safeguard the integrity of water boundary information.
  • Support system enhancements, maintenance releases and future developments through activities including user acceptance testing and disaster recovery testing.
  • Deliver guidance, support and training to both new and existing team members, helping build GIS capability across the business.

What We're Looking For

  • Advanced GIS expertise, with experience of ArcGIS highly desirable.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and explain GIS concepts to both technical and non technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess, challenge and manage conflicting information to support informed decision making.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high quality, accurate outputs.
  • A collaborative approach, with a proven ability to work effectively across teams and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Understanding of water networks and water supply boundary hierarchies, including their GIS representation and business application would be advantageous

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to be part of a team that sits at the heart of how United Utilities manages and understands its network. Your expertise will directly contribute to maintaining critical business data, improving operational efficiency and supporting the delivery of essential services to customers across the region.

If you're passionate about GIS, enjoy solving complex data challenges and want to make a real impact within a leading utilities organisation, we'd love to hear from you.
