Job Description

At United Utilities, our purpose is to deliver great water for a stronger, greener and healthier North West. Every day, the quality of our data helps us make better decisions, improve services, and support the millions of customers who rely on us.

We're looking for a GIS Network Specialist to join our team on a permanent secondment. This is an exciting opportunity for a GIS professional who enjoys combining technical expertise, problem solving, and collaboration to ensure our network data remains accurate, connected, and trusted across the business.

Working at the heart of network data management, you'll play a key role in maintaining the integrity of our water network and boundary data, supporting operational teams, and driving improvements that help keep our GIS systems accurate, reliable, and fit for the future.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Maintain and develop water boundaries, District Meter Areas, Discrete Pressure Areas, Water Supply Zones, and asset data within GIS, ensuring accurate network representation, connectivity, and boundary integrity.
  • Collaborate with operational teams and stakeholders to translate network changes into GIS updates and deliver consistent data across GIS, SAP, network models, and other connected systems.
  • Use your expertise in network connectivity, asset relationships, and boundary hierarchies to analyse complex data, identify risks, challenge changes where necessary, and protect data quality.
  • Build strong relationships across the business to promote best practice, drive continuous improvement, and ensure GIS data remains accurate, reliable, and fit for purpose.
  • Provide expert support and guidance to colleagues, including Clean Water Data Maintainers, helping them understand the wider impact of network updates and strengthening GIS knowledge across the team.
  • Support GIS enhancements, system releases, user acceptance testing, and disaster recovery activities to ensure the successful delivery of system changes.

What You'll Bring

  • Strong knowledge of water networks, water supply boundaries, and their representation within GIS, with advanced GIS skills and experience managing complex network data.
  • Excellent relationship building, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the business and share technical knowledge with colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the confidence to interpret complex and conflicting information and make informed decisions that support data integrity.
  • Well developed planning, organisational, and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high quality outcomes.
  • A collaborative approach, strong team working ethic, and a commitment to maintaining exceptional standards of accuracy, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Why This Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to become a recognised specialist in an area that is critical to the success of our operations. You'll combine technical expertise with business collaboration, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data that supports decision making across United Utilities.

If you're passionate about GIS, data quality, and making a real impact on how a major utility operates, this role offers the chance to influence key processes, work with a wide range of stakeholders, and help shape the future of network intelligence.
