Job Description
Join United Utilities at a pivotal time as we shape how water is managed across the Northwest for generations to come. As a Business Analyst within our Water Resources team, you will play a key role in determining whether future water supply can meet demand and where investment is needed to ensure long term resilience.
Water is a finite and increasingly pressured resource. In response to population growth, climate change and environmental expectations, this team leads the strategic planning that underpins a reliable and sustainable supply for customers, communities and the environment. Working alongside a close-knit group of modellers and in partnership with a Senior Business Analyst, you will translate complex data into clear insight that drives regulatory submissions, investment decisions and real organisational change.
This role suits someone with strong analytical foundations who can confidently advise, recommend and influence. You will be highly organised, detail focused and proactive in managing your workload, while also bringing the communication skills needed to distil complex data into simple, compelling messages for non-technical audiences.
What You Will Do
As part of a small, collaborative and high impact team, you will support the delivery of core water resource plans while helping to shape how the team operates and evolves. Your responsibilities will include:
- Deliver high quality technical outputs by analysing data to support the Water Resources Management Plan, Drought Plan and Annual Review
- Prepare and align water resource components within the Water Resources Management Plan and Business Plan to ensure consistency across strategic priorities
- Apply robust planning methodologies to enable decisions that balance risk, resilience and affordability
- Translate complex technical findings into clear and actionable insights that inform investment decisions and strategic direction
- Build strong relationships and drive collaboration across internal teams, regulators and key stakeholders
You will also play a key role in a newly formed team environment, contributing ideas to streamline processes, improve ways of working and introduce automation where possible. This is an opportunity to make a visible impact beyond analysis alone.
Technical Skills and Experience
- Experience and sound understanding of water industry practices, planning approaches and operational processes
- Strong analytical capability with the confidence to interpret complex datasets and produce meaningful insights
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualisation tools, including GIS, Power BI and Tableau
- Experience using Python, VBA or SQL for modelling and analysis to support planning and regulatory submissions
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate insights and influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Degree or equivalent in a numerate, scientific or technical discipline
Why This Role
This is a unique opportunity to join a strategic team at the centre of United Utilities’ future planning. You will work on critical programmes that assess water supply, shape regulatory submissions and directly influence how and where major investment is made.
With close exposure to senior stakeholders, the opportunity to help define team processes and the chance to contribute to meaningful environmental and infrastructure challenges, this role offers both impact and progression.
Benefits:
- 26 days annual leave rising to 30 with service, plus bank holidays
- Competitive pension with up to 14% employer contribution and life cover
- Performance related bonus of up to 7.5% plus recognition awards
- Company funded healthcare plan and wellbeing support including mental health resources and Employee Assistance Programme
- Access to discounts, gym savings, and flexible benefits through MORE Choices
- Financial wellbeing support including Salary Finance and Wealth at Work
- Electric vehicle scheme and ShareBuy options
- Enhanced parental leave
If you are a proactive and detail driven analyst who can turn data into clear insight and wants to be part of a team driving real change, we would love to hear from you.
