Job Description

Are you a detail focused and analytical professional who thrives on using data to drive performance and improvement? United Utilities has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Analyst to join our Environmental Performance Team, playing a key role at the heart of regulatory delivery.

This is a key role reporting to the Regulatory Operational Performance Manager within the Environmental Performance Team. It is a technical position within a regulatory environment that supports both Wastewater Services and Water Services. You will contribute to the delivery of environmental regulatory reporting, alongside customer and asset performance, ensuring outputs are accurate, consistent and meaningful.

You will be accountable for delivering outputs relating to environmental regulation and compliance, working closely with colleagues across Environmental Performance to maintain consistency and accuracy of information. The role also involves engagement with external bodies including the Environment Agency, Ofwat and other water companies, giving you valuable exposure across the industry.

This is a varied and fast paced role where you will balance reactive situations with ad hoc requests, while continually developing your knowledge and keeping up to date with changes in the regulatory framework. You will play an active role in driving performance improvements and adapting quickly to minimise the risk of regulatory issues.

Analytics forms a significant part of this role. You will ensure data is managed, processed and validated correctly, applying regulatory understanding to corporate datasets and using this to support the production of business performance reporting.

The Role & Key Accountabilities

In this role, you will build strong working relationships with operational teams and stakeholders, manage competing priorities including reactive issues and ad hoc requests, and continuously develop your regulatory knowledge in line with industry changes. You will proactively identify opportunities for improvement to enhance performance and reduce regulatory risk, while producing high quality, data led reports supported by robust assurance processes.

  • Conduct technical assessments of regulatory compliance against internal and external standards
  • Ensure regulatory submissions are accurate, complete and delivered on time
  • Work closely with Senior Technical Analysts to meet deadlines and performance targets
  • Support and promote continuous improvement across the team
  • Deliver actions that support regional regulatory performance
  • Develop and present briefing materials focused on operational best practice
  • Provide clear technical guidance to operational field teams
  • Support the preparation of documentation for business planning and regulatory reviews

Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone who is analytical, organised and confident working in a fast paced, technical environment. You will bring:

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage pressure effectively
  • A solid understanding of environmental regulatory frameworks
  • Effective planning and workload management capability
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Good knowledge of corporate systems and data
  • Adaptability and a positive approach to change
  • A commitment to delivering a high standard of service

Desirable Experience:

  • Operational experience within water or wastewater services
  • Understanding of ODI measures and performance metrics
  • Knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements

Why This Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a key technical role within a collaborative and high profile team. You will gain exposure across Water and Wastewater Services, work with a wide range of stakeholders, and play a direct role in supporting regulatory performance and compliance.

Benefits:
