Job Description

Hello, we’re ScreenCloud!

Founded in 2015 and with 10,000+ customers around the globe, ScreenCloud is a cloud-based SaaS company, employing over 100 people in our Bangkok, Belfast, LA, Charlotte and London hubs.

At ScreenCloud, we’re hard at work helping businesses to make stronger connections at scale, and with those who are most important to them; their employees & their customers. By using the screens on their walls & the content in their systems, we enable the sales, productivity & engagement that keep our customers’ businesses thriving.

We believe AI is reshaping how we work. The playbook is still being written, and we find that exciting. We're building a company where AI empowers every team member to have outsized impact and we're looking for people who share that vision.

We’re very proud of our product and we’re also incredibly proud of our people. It’s our ‘ScreenClouders’ and the culture they nurture that will take us where other companies just can’t go. So if you’re someone looking to join a team of talented individuals, apply below!

The Role:

Pulse is the next-generation CMS for creating, scheduling, and managing content across fleets of screens. Our customers depend on Pulse to keep their screens updated, reliable, and easy to manage—whether they’re running a few displays or thousands.

As a Staff Software Engineer on Pulse, you’ll help shape the technical foundation of this product: the architecture, patterns, APIs, workflows, and quality bar that allow Pulse to scale as both a customer-facing product and a platform other teams can build on. You’ll stay hands-on in the codebase while also creating leverage through technical direction, mentoring, design documents, and engineering standards.

Pulse is highly visual—it literally ends up on screens—and it comes with deep engineering challenges around performance, permissions, content workflows, scheduling, reliability, and operating at fleet scale. You’ll help the team make pragmatic technical decisions that balance speed, simplicity, product quality, and long-term maintainability.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the technical design and architecture of major Pulse systems across the stack: UI, APIs, services, data model, infrastructure, and operational tooling.

  • Shape how Pulse handles complex product domains such as permissions, scheduling, content workflows, moderation, auditability, multi-tenancy, and reliability at scale.

  • Design and evolve backend services with Fastify, creating APIs that are consistent, well-documented, observable, and easy for other teams to consume.

  • Define and improve data models in Postgres using Drizzle/DrizzleKit, including migrations, indexing, RLS, query performance, and patterns that keep the system understandable as it grows.

  • Build high-performance web experiences using Next.js + Server Components, with a focus on speed, UX, maintainability, and clear tradeoffs between server and client rendering.

  • Use Pulumi to manage and improve our AWS infrastructure in a way that’s reproducible, secure, and safe to change.

  • Help establish engineering standards for testing, observability, release safety, migrations, API design, frontend architecture, and documentation.

  • Mentor engineers through technical design reviews, pairing, feedback, and thoughtful guidance—raising the quality of decisions across the team without needing formal authority.

  • Collaborate closely with product, design, QA, platform, and other engineering teams to shape requirements, explore tradeoffs, and ship iteratively.

  • Use AI tools like Cursor, Claude, Gemini with MCP servers, skills and tools to help you ship faster, and help the team develop sensible practices for AI-assisted development, testing, review, and documentation.

Requirements:

  • Strong experience shipping production systems with TypeScript/Node.js across the stack.

  • Strong relational database fundamentals, especially Postgres: schema design, migrations, indexing, RLS, query performance, transactions, and data modelling tradeoffs.

  • Significant experience designing and building backend APIs with tools such as Fastify, Hono, Express, or similar frameworks, with strong opinions about API ergonomics and stability.

  • Experience with React/Next.js, including server components, client-side rendering, streaming, performance tradeoffs, and modern frontend architecture.

  • Strong architectural judgment: you know when to keep things simple, when to introduce abstraction, and how to make decisions that age well.

  • Experience operating production systems, including observability, incident response, release safety, and debugging distributed systems.

  • A track record of mentoring engineers, raising technical standards, and helping teams make better decisions.

  • A product mindset: you care about the customer experience and understand that technical quality should serve product outcomes.

Bonus Skills

  • Multi-tenant SaaS patterns, including permissions, roles, audit logs, data isolation, and compliance-aware design.

  • Working on modern web apps built with tools like React, Vue, Remix, or Next.

  • Understanding architectural design patterns such as Clean Architecture, MVC, SOLID, event-driven systems, and their tradeoffs.

  • The latest in AI tooling—maybe you have a bank of skills and workflows you use not just for writing code, but for debugging and analysis.

  • Observability practices, including structured logging, metrics, traces, alerting, SLOs, and production dashboards.

  • Owning systems in production and improving operability over time.

  • Improving developer experience: tooling, templates, docs, CI/CD speed, reliability, and agentic workflows.

  • Designing APIs, SDKs, or internal platforms that other teams build on.

  • Implementing or guiding AI-assisted product features, internal tools, or engineering workflows.
