Job Description

At a Glance

Prolific: A fast-growing remote-first scaleup of 150+ people who are mainly based in the UK. YC alumni (summer 2019) and Series A funding of $32m in 2023.

Our mission is to revolutionize how the world learns about people, so people can revolutionize the world.

Salary: £80,000

This is a 12 month FTC with the potential to be made a permanent role based on personal performance and company growth.

The Role

Our researchers want a seamless experience of using Prolific to create studies and learning tasks, and our participants want fair rewards and meaningful studies to take part in. As one of our Product Designers, you’ll work within our stream-aligned product teams to improve the experience of both sides of the marketplace. You’ll build and advocate for functional and delightful customer journeys that pack a lot of value. Working experimentally and iteratively with colleagues from several disciplines, you will lean on user research, product analytics, and your own experience to justify your design decisions.

In contrast to a challenging 2023 in the market, Prolific is abuzz with growth and energy. We now have more than tens of thousands of active researchers and hundreds of thousands of active participants using our product, with more than 11 million responses collected in a recent year. We recently collaborated with leading academics to produce a research paper which compares our data quality with that of other platforms. You can check it out here.
We care deeply about building an inclusive and diverse team. We offer flexible hours, open, friendly culture and meaningful share option allocation. Diversity of thought genuinely matters to us. We seek culture add, not culture fit.

What you'll be doing

  • Identifying and solving a range of problems through the discovery, definition and design of products.
  • Helping define, monitor, and improve key success metrics, such as conversion and retention.
  • Contributing to our design system and improving our design processes.
  • Evangelising data-driven design and rapid prototyping / iteration to get to real value, fast.

You will do this by:

  • Gaining a deep understanding of the motivations and behaviours of researchers and participants, through workshops and user research.
  • Design models and user journeys that allow our users to effectively achieve their objectives.
  • Create service maps, wireframes, mock-ups and prototypes.
  • Evaluate prototypes and experiments for value, usability and feasibility.
  • Collaborate in real-time with the product team and engineering team when developing a new design.
  • Communicate design decisions and the reasons behind them across the whole Prolific team.

What you’ll bring

You are curious about people's behaviour and passionate about how great design can improve user productivity and enjoyment. You understand, or are keen to learn about, product design principles and have practical experience using them. You're comfortable with remote-first and asynchronous working that is fast-paced and constantly changing. You have experience in a product or UX design role.

Skills and experience:

  • Design tools, such as Figma.
  • Prototyping and testing with customers.
  • Experience of, or interest in learning, information architecture and interaction design.
  • Experience of, or interest in learning, interface design, and a deep understanding of good visual and interactive design in dynamic contexts.

Even better if you have

  • Marketplace environment.
  • Scale-up business environment.
  • Inclusive design and accessibility.
