Team: Product Management - AER Pod (Attract, Engage, Retain)

Salary banding: £58,000 - £90,000

Contract type: Fixed Term

Reporting to: Delivery and Growth Lead

Sponsorship: Unfortunately we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

This role in 3 words: Ownership, Curious and Driver of actions

Top 3 qualities for this role: Proactivity, Organisation and Communication

Where you’ll work:

Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person.

You’ll be assigned to the closest one of our three hub offices, Bristol, Glasgow, or London; unless your role requires field-based work. Each hub has accessible spaces to park your laptop, is designed to inspire people, help them connect and bring big ideas to life.

Everyone belongs at OVO

At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity's biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That's why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.

Teamworking for the planet

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:

As part of the AER Pod, your code and product choices directly drive the UK’s energy transition. Here is how we make an impact:

  • The Gateway to Green Energy: We build the first-touch digital experiences and onboarding orchestration that enable millions of customers to switch to clean energy easily and securely.
  • Powering Zero-Carbon Propositions: We engineer the core platforms and APIs behind OVO’s market-leading green add-ons and smart tariffs (including EV charging, solar, heat pump propositions, and flexible energy incentives).
  • Decarbonising Daily Living: Through innovative tools like Power Move and dynamic energy add-ons, our software rewards customers for shifting their energy habits away from peak fossil-fuel grid times.
  • Modern, Resilient Architecture: We tackle complex distributed systems, modern identity (IAM) platforms, and scalable microservices to ensure our green tech ecosystem is fast, robust, and friction-free.

This role in a nutshell:

As a Senior Product Manager in our Agile environment, you will be a strategic leader responsible for driving the product vision and roadmap for a larger product area or multiple products. Your role involves leading cross-functional teams, mentoring junior Product Managers, and ensuring alignment between business goals and customer needs.

By leveraging market knowledge, advanced data analysis, and customer feedback, you will identify product-market fit, shape new product opportunities, and deliver high-value product increments. Your expertise will be crucial in shaping the future of our product area and contributing to the organization's overall success.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Develop and communicate the strategic long-term product vision and roadmap, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and customer needs.
  • Lead the management and prioritisation of complex product backlogs, ensuring alignment with sprint goals, business strategy, and efficient development processes.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups (including development, marketing, sales) and multiple product teams.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis and market research to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, using these insights to develop and communicate data-driven product strategies.
  • Lead backlog refinement sessions, ensuring user stories are well-defined, prioritised, and include clear acceptance criteria for the development team.
  • Conduct market and competitive analysis to inform product strategy and proactively identify new, innovative product opportunities.
  • Lead and ensure effective participation in Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, retrospectives) to maintain a focused and collaborative team environment.
  • Provide expert mentorship and guidance to junior product managers and agile team members, fostering continuous learning and team capability growth.

You’ll be a successful Senior Product Manager here at OVO if you…

  • The ability to think strategically, demonstrate strong business acumen, and translate complex objectives into a cohesive product roadmap.
  • Expert knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and advanced skills in product roadmap and complex backlog management.
  • Advanced data analysis and market research skills to drive strategic product decisions, coupled with strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent leadership and mentorship abilities to guide junior team members and foster a culture of continuous learning and high performance.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills to align diverse stakeholders and lead cross-functional collaboration.
  • Highly adaptable, proactive, and results-oriented, thriving in a dynamic Agile environment and committed to continuous improvement and innovation.
