Where you’ll work:
Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person.
You’ll be assigned to the closest one of our three hub offices, Bristol, Glasgow, or London; unless your role requires field-based work. Each hub has accessible spaces to park your laptop, is designed to inspire people, help them connect and bring big ideas to life.

This role in a nutshell:
This role will involve working with multidisciplinary teams involved in the creation of AI-driven products, so an understanding of the concepts involved in bringing AI-based solutions to market would be useful.
As a Machine Learning Engineer at OVO, you’ll play a key role in developing and deploying machine learning models that power real-world applications. You’ll design and build production-ready ML pipelines, collaborate across teams to ensure systems are reliable and scalable, and continuously improve data preprocessing and feature engineering to boost model performance and efficiency.
Your key outcomes will be:
- Model Development and Deployment: Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models into production, ensuring seamless integration and efficient training and evaluation processes.
- Model Performance Tuning: Continuously monitor and refine model performance through hyperparameter optimization and analysis, applying techniques that enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- ML Pipeline Development: Work collaboratively with data and software engineers to build scalable, reproducible ML pipelines, implementing CI/CD workflows for streamlined deployment.
- Model Monitoring and Maintenance: Establish monitoring systems to track model performance in production, proactively addressing reliability and stability issues.
- Data Preprocessing and Feature Engineering: Enhance data quality and consistency through effective preprocessing and feature engineering, applying robust transformation and selection strategies.
- Community of Practice: Contribute to OVO’s Machine Learning Community of Practice by engaging in collaborative discussions and supporting the growth of shared knowledge and practices.

- Experience developing and deploying machine learning models in real-world environments
- Proficient in training and deploying models using frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch
- Skilled in building and maintaining scalable ML pipelines
- Strong capabilities in hyperparameter tuning and model performance optimisation
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices for machine learning workflows
- Able to monitor, troubleshoot, and improve models in production
- Solid skills in data preprocessing, transformation, and feature engineering
- Strong programming ability in Python and SQL
- Comfortable documenting workflows and sharing knowledge clearly
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Committed to best practices in reproducibility, monitoring, and model reliability

We’ll pay you between £50,000 and £70,000, depending on your specific skills and experience.
We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.
You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
