We are looking for an Applied Science Manager who can bring deep applied science expertise to set the vision and direction for Microsoft 365 AI. As an Applied Science Manager in MSAI you would work in an exciting and fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with teams across the company, including Microsoft Research (MSR). You will work as part of an organization that brings together talent in the areas of machine learning, natural language processing, multimodal modeling, deep learning, graph learning, information retrieval, software engineering, and responsible AI. Responsibilities

  • Manage innovative applied science teams in the area of Artificial Intelligence, specifically training, optimizing and the application of LLMs (Large Language Models).
  • Support hiring, coaching, mentoring and career development of Applied Scientists and Software Engineers to build inclusive and ambitious applied science focused teams
  • Collaborate closely with Microsoft Research, AI platform teams, and product teams to create the next generation of AI innovation in our products and services
  • Support and develop a thriving applied science culture within the MSAI organization that encourages experimentation, scientific process, and innovation
  • Communicate internally and externally through publication, presentations, and other mediums (e.g., blogs, press interviews) on research progress, major breakthroughs, and product innovation

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research).
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Confirmed people management experience.

Other Requirements:


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Confirmed people management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker.
  • Relevant experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).
  • Proven experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team.
  • Demosntrated experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.
