Manufacturing Equipment Engineer

Job Description

The Azure Fiber team in Romsey is seeking dynamic candidates with energy and a passion for innovation to join our team. You will be working on high value and specialist fiber manufacturing equipment at our state of the art fiber facility. The equipment will deliver fabrication technologies for radically novel optical fibers, including glass preform manufacture, optical fiber drawing and associated processes.

The role will involve close interaction with the Engineering, Production and Research and Development (R&D) teams to facilitate and support the development and roll-out of new fabrication methods for next generation fibers and turn them into robust and reliable volume manufacturing processes. Additionally, you will be required to support the scaling up of the new fabrication facility to meet customer demand and company ambition. As such, this is a 'hands on' role based in Romsey five days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Support the commissioning and acceptance testing of high-value and specialist fiber manufacturing equipment.
  • Monitor, maintain and upgrade fiber manufacturing equipment under the guidance of others.
  • Assist in maintaining the calibration register for fiber manufacturing equipment.
  • Document maintenance processes and adhere to preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Implementation and support of TPM schedules for fiber manufacturing equipment.
  • Provide technical support for project and product development under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist in the resolution of equipment and technical issues.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field experience in a manufacturing environment/repair environment.
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Experience in maintaining high-value specialist process equipment.
  • Proficient in owning and solving problems in an analytical, logical and practical way, while also seeking out improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to understand complex process and equipment problems, and explain complex technical problems to equipment suppliers.
  • Be a self-starter with effective communication (utilizing exemplary command of written and spoken English, both colloquial and technical) and effective interpersonal skills, while possesing the ability to work across all disciplines and all levels of the organisation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 product family.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of fiber manufacturing processes, ideally in an industrial setting.
  • An understanding of, or training in ISO9001.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control methods and their application.
  • Ability to use lean problem solving and continuous improvement methodologies and practices.
