Job Description

An opportunity has become available at the MBDA UK Bolton site to work as part of a team of experienced engineers to support the increasing product delivery requirements, maintaining and improving processes and standards to achieve this.

Salary: Circa £43,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: Minimum of 4 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen only. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

As a Process Engineer, you will work as part of the Printed Circuit Card Assembly (PCBA) manufacturing business unit with a focus on the manufacture of our products. The Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) Business unit produces high complexity products with a high mix, low volume output. The business unit is rapidly growing in order to achieve the large backlog of orders over the next 5-10 years, with the production output more than tripling.

You will be a part of the process engineering team working closely with test, manufacturing and quality engineers whilst building strong relationships with stakeholders including the operations, design support and calibration and maintenance teams.

This role reports to the Principal Process Engineer within the CCA business unit.

The Role:

You will be responsible for various technical aspects of PCBA. This will involve working on creating and maintaining standards, identifying and carrying out continuous improvement activities, solving technical problems, all whilst considering quality as intrinsic to the role.

The opportunity also allows you to grow your knowledge within manufacturing as part of development into future opportunities. Industrial Validation, manufacturing architecture and factory of the future are some of the work packages that can provide stretch objectives for such growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the manufacturing area in its growth and rate increase.
  • Carrying out improvement activities - data gathering and data analyses to understand impact and effort required.
  • Support the Non-Conformance process - root cause analyses, implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Interface with the design authority during the product development phase to ensure optimised Design for Manufacture (DfM), and in the production phase for management of change implementation. This includes supporting the New Product Introduction team in creating/improving design rules for manufacturability of circuit cards.
  • Ensure processes and equipment contribute to a safe working environment following both company processes and legal obligations, meeting internal quality requirements.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing methods, processes and equipment with a data-based approach, using methods such as SPC, to support a robust manufacturing system.
  • Resolve issues and queries with the operations team on the shop floor.
  • Perform and review PFMEAs.
  • Develop tooling to aid the manufacturing process.
  • Create and modify machine programmes for the assembly, manufacture or inspection of circuit cards.

What we're looking for from you:

  • An understanding and appreciation for quality control.
  • Analytical mindset with the willingness to learn.
  • Proficient in computer and internet use, including proficiency in commonly used applications such as Microsoft Office Suite & manufacturing systems such as: ERP systems, Manufacturing Execution System etc.
  • Experience in Circuit Card Manufacturing or Design is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of PCBA Processes and Technologies is beneficial.
  • ​A proactive approach to process improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS (Must Have)

  • Formal technical Engineering/Craft Apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3/TR23/TR21
  • Formal further education certificate to HND or equivalent in a relevant subject

ALTERNATIVELY

  • BEng/BSc in relevant Engineering/Technical Degree
