The Senior Analyst, Carbon Accounting and LCA role is a critical subject matter expert (SME) lead on GHG accounting requirements, including areas like GHG removals and MRV (monitoring, reporting and validation). This role is a strategic enabler- collaborating with value chain and third-party partners to build and govern our impact factor pipeline, empowering cross-functional teams to pioneer lower-footprint product innovations, and rapidly building Mars Snacking’s climate analytics capabilities. This role requires a unique blend of deep technical sustainability expertise, advanced quantitative analysis and strong project governance skills necessary to turn rigorous data in to resilient business action.

Key Responsibilities

Includes engaging with sourcing teams on data collection from suppliers, analyzing data with impact factor consultants, and integrating outputs into Mars’ GHG reporting processes.
  • Facilitate Methodology & LCA Reviews: Engage with external consultants to conduct farm tool methodology and life cycle assessment (LCA) reviews, ensuring the credible and auditable integration of primary supply data into Mars’ GHG reporting.

  • Own Data-Driven Carbon Optimization Strategies: Identify and lead the execution of data improvement strategies to improve carbon footprint accuracy and deliver measurable carbon reduction benefits where relevant.
  • Advise on Lower-Footprint Innovation: Provide guidance to Research & Development teams to evaluate new ingredients and formulation changes, supporting climate-smart innovation and product design decisions.

Advise on Technical GHG Accounting Requirements

  • Monitor Evolving Standards: Proactively engage with internal and external industry experts to track, interpret and maintain an advanced understanding of rapidly evolving global climate accounting standards and practices.
  • Serve as Segment Subject Matter Expert: Act as segment SME on highly technical climate accounting areas, including GHG removals, farm project MRV (monitoring, reporting & validation), co-product allocation, mass-balance versus traceability approaches, and verification protocols.
  • Translate Complexity into Capability: Build the technical capabilities of climate program owners, translating complex accounting rules into actional guidelines that can be embedded into program processes.
  • Shape Mars Incorporated Accounting Approaches: Champion Mars Snacking’s priorities on evolving technical accounting needs, collaborating across segments to align and standardize methodologies.

.

Manage Performance and Risk Mitigation of Impact Factor Development

  • Lead Strategic Impact Factor Road mapping & Performance: Own the end-to-end planning and execution of the yearly GHG impact factor development roadmap, securing necessary program budgets, managing delivery timelines, and establishing robust mechanisms to track and report progress quarterly.
  • Govern Delivery Risk & Recovery: Proactively identify, monitor, and mitigate delivery risks across the impact factor pipeline; serve as the lead troubleshooter when projects veer off-schedule, designing and executing recovery plans to get critical data streams back on track without compromising reporting deadlines.

Optimize Systems, Tools and Processes

  • Develop Future-Fit Healthy Planet Systems: Partner with broader sustainability data teams to support the development, testing, and implementation of new systems and tools to advance Healthy Planet data management.
  • Support the Healthy Planet Operating Model: Serve as a core technical enabler of the broader Healthy Planet operating model, embedding relevant processes, data governance, and integration pipelines that connect climate analytics to day-to-day business decisions.

Support Strategic Initiatives:

  • Pioneer Future Environmental Accounting and Resilience Frameworks: Partner with the broader Healthy Planet team to evolve next-generation accounting methodologies for emerging strategy or regulatory needs.
