As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, engineer and run our capabilities for the Network Automation and Orchestration Tools stack for network and perimeter products and platforms that enable highly distributed global business for site, fleet, asset and IoT connectivity, required to deliver against our strategy. You will be exposed to a wide and challenging range of needs and opportunities requiring you to engage closely with stakeholders across all levels within Maersk as you mature and evolve our OSS capabilities for Network OSS to become world class.
Scope
The Network Operational Intelligence team at Maersk is expanding into AI-driven network operations, focusing on building intelligent, autonomous systems that enhance the management of data networks across Core, Edge, and Cloud locations (offices, warehouses, terminals, vessels, data centres, cloud environments, etc.) and the perimeter services that secure them.
This role focuses on building network monitoring solutions through open-source tooling, Generative AI and integrations into network elements/managers spread across various geographies, location and technology domains (WAN/LAN/Cloud etc).
Key areas include:
- Scalable Instrumentation and Collection Engineering: Ability to build and manage a robust collection layer by interacting with network elements and EMS/NMS systems. Expertise in utilizing various collection technologies, including API clients, SNMP, traps, telemetry (Prometheus collectors), webhooks, and log-based collection (rsyslog + Promtail). Design and develop scalable systems that can operate in a distributed environment (edge to cloud) and are highly available.
- Real-time Streaming and Intelligent Operational Insights: Expertise in building and managing large-scale, real-time data pipelines. Strong knowledge of streaming platforms like Apache Kafka and processing frameworks such as Apache Flink or Spark to handle and enrich structured and unstructured datasets (e.g., Netflow, SNMP, traces, logs, JSON).
This role is at the intersection of networks and software engineering, aiming to build world-class solutions for network automation and zero touch lifecycle mgmt., with a focus on Network Assurance.
Specific Job Requirements
We are looking for a Software Engineer with 4+ yrs experience possessing product mindset and passion for building AI-driven solutions that transform how Maersk manages, operates, and understands global network infrastructure.
In this role, you will:
- Collaborate closely with Network SMEs, Product Owners, and Engineers to identify AI opportunities in telemetry analysis, event correlation, configuration analysis, and operational summarization.
- Build GenAI-powered tools to enhance observability, enable root cause analysis, and provide intelligent insights through natural language interfaces.
- Architect and deploy agent-based systems that integrate with network management platforms and decision-support systems.
- Lead the design and implementation of prompt flows, vector-based search, and retrieval pipelines to contextualize large-scale telemetry and logs.
- Mentor developers and engineers on best practices in data modelling, system design, architecture, and security in production-grade environments.
- Continuously evaluate and experiment with emerging frameworks and tools for use in network monitoring and automation space.
To be considered for this opportunity, the candidate needs to have the following technical qualifications:
- Collection & Observability Expertise: Hands-on experience in network monitoring and data collection using Grafana Agent, Prometheus collectors, trap listeners, and log collection tools like rsyslog and Promtail to interface with EMS/NMS systems and interfaces.
- CI/CD and Platform Engineering: A must-have understanding of CI/CD pipelines with practical knowledge of GitHub Workflows, Docker, and Kubernetes. Expertise in building and managing containerized applications.
- Observability: Hands-on knowledge of PromQL/logQL and how to use them for monitoring, logging, and alerting in a production environment.
- Familiarity with Spring Boot and React.js is preferred for developing quick proofs of concept (PoCs) and small applications.
- Familiarity with deployment concepts like api-gateways, ingress-controllers, horizontal scaling etc.
- Scripting: Ability to develop quick PoCs and prototypes using scripting languages like python, PowerShell and tools like Postman to validate concepts and build small-scale integrations.
