Job Description

With more than 100,000 colleagues across 130 countries, Maersk is a global leader in logistics—and a place where you can truly grow, learn, and thrive in a diverse, international environment. We are an integrated container logistics company committed to simplifying and connecting supply chains for customers worldwide. Through seamless end‑to‑end products, digital innovation, and one of the world’s most reliable delivery networks, Maersk enables businesses to trade, scale, and succeed by moving goods to every corner of the globe.

Ready to push the limits of what AI can do in large‑scale optimisation?
In this role, you’ll evaluate how modern AI techniques can supercharge the scalability of Maersk’s most complex optimisation problems. You’ll sit at the intersection of advanced AI and classical operations research—running rigorous experiments, shaping new modelling approaches, and delivering clear, evidence‑based recommendations that guide strategic technology investments. If you want to help define the next frontier of intelligent decision‑making, this is where you make your mark.

What we offer

To work at Maersk is to step into a world of opportunity and impact. You’ll collaborate with talented professionals who keep global trade moving—shaping the flow of goods, ideas, and possibilities across the planet. Here, your growth truly matters. With access to world‑class learning, supportive leaders, and space to stretch your potential, you can build a career that takes you further than you imagined. You’ll be part of a diverse, inclusive community where you’re valued for your unique strengths and celebrated for the contributions you make. And with flexible hybrid working and industry‑leading benefits, you’ll have the freedom and support to thrive—professionally and personally.

Your responsibilities:

  • Investigate and prototype AI/ML techniques that could accelerate or enhance large-scale optimization (e.g., learning-augmented algorithms, surrogate modeling, search-guidance models, reinforcement learning)
  • Gain deep understanding of existing optimization workflows, bottlenecks, and constraints
  • Design controlled experiments to assess feasibility, performance, stability, and scalability of AI-based enhancements
  • Build small, targeted prototype components to test hypotheses efficiently and objectively
  • Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, outlining potential value, risks, and limitations
  • Collaborate with engineering and data teams to ensure experiments use reliable data and reproducible infrastructure
  • Document results, assumptions, and takeaways in a structured and transparent manner

You will be accountable for:

  • Delivering an evidence-based assessment of whether AI can materially improve the scalability of selected optimization problems
  • Providing prototypes and benchmark data supporting that conclusion (positive or negative)
  • Ensuring experimentation is rigorous, reproducible, and aligned with organizational priorities
  • Translating complex technical results into actionable decision points

To succeed, you can offer these competencies:

  • Strong background in AI/ML (deep learning, RL, probabilistic modeling, LLMs)
  • Strong background in operations research (optimization, heuristics, algorithm design)
  • Expert-level software engineering skills (Python and/or C++, high-performance computing experience helpful)
  • Ability to quickly understand complex models and system architectures
  • Experimental rigor, scientific mindset, and clear analytical thinking
  • Self-direction and comfort working in ambiguous, exploratory environments

If you’re excited to test big ideas, challenge limits, and drive innovation at global scale, we want to hear from you. Join us and help build what’s next.
