Who We Are:
We are the Underwriting team responsible for decisioning Liberis applications in the UK/EU and a key enabler of the business’s rapid growth. Using a variety of data sources, we make fast, informed decisions for our prospective merchants. We’re building a center of excellence for business decisioning, combining Liberis’ deep product knowledge with excellent local market understanding wherever we operate. Our Underwriting team plays a vital role not only in decisioning applications but also in working across Liberis to provide merchants with a great experience and access to the funding they need to thrive. Who You Are:
We are looking for an exceptional individual to join as a Senior Underwriter. Beyond underwriting applications, you will play a key role in steering our rapidly growing business. You embrace challenge, enjoy autonomy, and bring your own ideas to the table. You are passionate about finance that supports small businesses, not just turning a profit. You thrive on engaging with stakeholders across the company and driving business success.
Reporting to the Senior Underwriting Manager, you will be responsible for underwriting new and repeat finance proposals that protect and deliver value to Liberis. You will have the opportunity to enhance our underwriting process while ensuring we remain within the organization’s risk appetite.
You have experience in a similar underwriting role, particularly in small business finance, and can demonstrate strong judgment and the ability to mitigate risk effectively. You can analyze complex financial information, identify trends and opportunities, and communicate your decisions clearly to both internal stakeholders and merchants. What you will be doing:
- Underwrite new and repeat business requests, analyzing multiple sources of information to make robust decisions.
- Continuously develop the underwriting process to balance excellent merchant experience with protecting Liberis from risk.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve business processes and support merchants and partners effectively.
- Liaise directly with prospective merchants to gather additional information and communicate approve/decline decisions as needed.
- Serve as a referral point for internal stakeholders, ensuring policies and procedures are followed and providing credit guidance to collections on high-risk accounts.
- Manage external vendor relationships and contribute to onboarding new partners.
What We Think You’ll Need:
- Previous experience in an underwriting role, ideally in small business finance
- Confidence in making decisions and articulating them effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and meticulous analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to convey complex findings clearly and logically.
- Ability to refocus and adapt in a rapidly growing and evolving company.
- Strong ability to interpret management accounts, cash flow statements, credit bureau reports, and financial trends to assess affordability, sustainability, and overall credit risk.
What happens next?
Think this sounds like the right next move for you? Or if you’re not completely confident that you fit our exact criteria, apply anyway and we can arrange a call to see if the role is fit for you. Humility is a wonderful thing, and we are interested in hearing about what you can add to Liberis!
Our hybrid approach
Working together in person helps us move faster, collaborate better, and build a great Liberis culture. Our hybrid working policy requires team members to be in the office at least 3 days a week, but ideally 4 days. At Liberis, we embrace flexibility as a core part of our culture, while also valuing the importance of the time our teams spend together in the office.
