Job Description

Credit Risk Team Leader

Function:
Finance
Location: Edinburgh (St Andrews Sq) - hybrid with a mix of office & home working

Salary: £35,000 - £42,000 base depending on experience, plus full benefits listed below.
Contract: Permanent

Closing Date: 4th January 2026. Please note, we may close vacancies early where we receive significant numbers of applications.

As the nation’s leading pub, cider and beer company and the name behind a host of brilliant brands, we’re looking for equally brilliant people to help us on our journey to building a better future.

We’re looking for a Credit Risk Team Leader to join our Star Pubs Finance team. This is a great opportunity if you enjoy leading people, making balanced commercial decisions, and working at the heart of how the business manages risk.

About the role
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll lead a small team of three Credit Risk Controllers, sitting at the centre of how we manage credit risk across Pub Operator onboarding and offboarding for Star Pubs.

Reporting into the Senior Credit Risk Manager, you’ll take ownership of credit decisions within delegated authority, applying sound judgement and providing constructive challenge where needed. You’ll work closely with Pubs Operations, Legal and Property to balance customer experience with commercial risk, while ensuring strong governance and consistency.

Alongside the day-to-day, you’ll help shape how we work, supporting process improvements and preparing the team for Star Pubs’ ERP migration in 2026.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading, coaching and developing the Credit Risk Controllers
  • Owning onboarding credit assessments and AML/KYC checks
  • Making evidence-based credit decisions and escalating where appropriate
  • Overseeing customer offboarding, including exit statements and balance recovery
  • Identifying risks, inefficiencies and opportunities to improve processes
  • Partnering with stakeholders across the business to land fair, balanced outcomes

Who we’re looking for
You don’t need a formal finance qualification for this role, a Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM) qualification would be a bonus, but what matters more is your judgement, attention to detail and confidence in making and standing by decisions.

You’ll have experience in credit risk, underwriting, financial assessment or a similar environment, and you’ll either be managing people already or ready to step into a leadership role. You’re comfortable working with data, communicating clearly, and building strong relationships with stakeholders.

Experience in hospitality, commercial property, FMCG or B2B credit would be useful, as would exposure to AML/KYC or credit governance, but these aren’t essential

We embrace learning and growth, and there is plenty of scope to develop in this role. You’re also likely to bring experiences that are not listed above – these are welcome, but a core understanding of stakeholder communications is important.

Our Ways of Working
Heineken’s Global Purpose is to “brew the Joy of True Togetherness to inspire a better world” and to fulfil this we believe in working closely with each other and collaborating f2f when we can. To enable this, we ask colleagues to be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays and one other day of the colleague’s choice.
