Editorial Onboarding and Digital Content Intern
Job Description
As Emerald continues to grow its journal portfolio through acquisitions, partnerships, and new launches, there is an increasing need for a scalable, consistent, and high quality onboarding experience for new journals and their editorial teams. Currently, onboarding materials are dispersed across multiple documents, systems, and teams, which can make it difficult for newly acquired or newly launched journals to gain a clear understanding of Emerald’s workflows, tools, expectations, and best practices.
This internship project focuses on creating a comprehensive onboarding package specifically designed for new journals transitioning into Emerald’s publishing environment. The intern will consolidate existing resources, standardise training content, and produce a suite of onboarding videos aligned with Emerald’s brand and operational workflows. They will also explore hosting options and develop strategies to ensure these materials are accessible, engaging, and consistently used. This project gives the intern valuable experience in multimedia content creation, operational design, stakeholder collaboration, and publishing workflows.
The internship will be for a duration of 3 months.
Location: We perform at our best when we feel trusted and are able to choose an approach to working that suits us best, which is why we are a remote-first company. However, we also believe in face to face collaboration, and our UK colleagues meet once a month for team time and quarterly for company get togethers in our Leeds office, so we ask that you be within a commutable distance that you are comfortable with in order to attend the office on those occasions.
Please note that although we are a remote-first company, the role will need to be carried out from the UK. As such, we are unable to accommodate remote arrangements from other countries.
About our Recruitment Process: We welcome applications from all individuals, irrespective of age, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, or belief. As we understand the value of the transferability of skills and experiences, we are not looking for the 'perfect candidate', we encourage everyone who is truly excited about our mission to apply.
We receive a high volume of interest in our roles and may close applications early if we reach capacity. We strongly recommend applying as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
If you require additional time to complete your application due to accessibility needs or other circumstances, please don’t hesitate to contact us, we’re happy to support you.
Day to day you'll work on:

- Planning and Scripting Video Training Modules: Identify key onboarding modules most needed for new launches. Draft scripts based on existing practices, ensuring clarity, accuracy and alignment with Emerald’s process while collaborating with internal stakeholders to validate content.
- Research Producing Video Content: Research best practices for filming and editing short instructional videos. Ensure video comply with Emerald’s branding, tone, and accessibility guidelines.
- Developing a Hosting and Delivery Strategy: Evaluate potential hosting environments. Recommend the most effective method for accessibility and long-term resource management. Propose strategies to ensure journal teams actively watch and use materials.
- Feedback and Testing: Share drafts of materials and videos with internal stakeholders and selected journal editors for feedback. Test materials on 2-3 onboardings and gather comments. Incorporate revisions to improve clarity and usability. Provide supporting assets such as transcripts, checklists, or templates.
