Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

As a Senior Software Engineer at Centrica Energy, you will play a key role in designing, building, and evolving the technology platforms that support our power trading operations. Working within a highly skilled agile team, you will combine hands-on software engineering with technical leadership, helping to shape architecture, drive engineering best practices, and mentor fellow developers.

This is an opportunity to work on business-critical systems in a fast-paced, data-driven trading environment where technology is a key enabler of commercial success.

This role can be based out of our Aalborg, Denmark office.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the design, development, and enhancement of robust backend services and APIs using .NET C#

  • Driving technical architecture decisions and ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable

  • Building and enhancing desktop applications using WPF and integrating systems via Web APIs

  • Championing engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, and continuous improvement of development standards

  • Leveraging AWS Cloud and Kubernetes to deliver resilient, cloud-native solutions

  • Designing and optimizing data solutions using MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL

  • Implementing and supporting event-driven architectures using RabbitMQ and Kafka

  • Enhancing observability through monitoring, alerting, and logging with Datadog

  • Driving CI/CD best practices using Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, and Argo

  • Collaborating across teams using Git, Jira, and Confluence

  • Working closely with traders, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver high-impact solutions

  • Mentoring and supporting less experienced engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement

We understand the importance of a smooth transition, which is why we offer an extensive onboarding programme tailored to your needs. You will be paired with a dedicated buddy and supported by experienced colleagues who will help you quickly build domain knowledge and establish yourself within the team.

About you:

You are an experienced software engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, influencing technical direction, and delivering high-quality solutions in a collaborative environment. You may be the perfect fit if you:

  • Have significant experience developing enterprise applications using .NET C#

  • Bring strong expertise across modern software engineering practices, including cloud technologies, system design, and DevOps

  • Have experience designing scalable, distributed systems and making sound architectural decisions

  • Are passionate about delivering high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested software

  • Enjoy mentoring and supporting other engineers while helping raise technical standards across the team

  • Can confidently partner with business users to understand challenges and deliver practical solutions

  • Thrive in an agile environment and are comfortable balancing technical excellence with business priorities

  • Have experience working with some or all of the technologies within our stack, including AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Datadog, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL

  • Are curious, proactive, and motivated by solving real-world problems

  • Are excited by the opportunity to contribute to the green energy transition

Previous experience within energy trading is beneficial but not essential. We value strong engineering capability, leadership potential, and a growth mindset above all else. #LI-CET
