Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that’s energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently – we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it and mend it.

About your team:

At Centrica Energy, our mission is to move it.

We’re energy movers by nature. We’re a global renewable energy trading company which helps move energy from source to use – powering businesses, homes, and societies as they transition to a new sustainable energy future. If the idea of working to create a sustainable energy future also moves you, we may very well be the right place for you.

This role sits at the heart of Pre‑Trade platforms, combining deep hands‑on engineering with people leadership and close engagement with trading and analytics stakeholders. Leading an onsite team in Aalborg, this position plays a foundational role in strengthening in‑house capabilities and modernising market data scraping and ingestion infrastructure. It offers the opportunity to shape direction, build a high‑performing local team, and directly influence data reliability across fast‑moving trading environments.

About the Role

The Pre‑Trade Data Scraping & Operations Lead leads and grows an Aalborg‑based team responsible for sourcing, validating, and operating market data pipelines that underpin Pre‑Trade decision‑making. The role blends technical execution, leadership, and operational ownership in a high‑availability environment. It is hands‑on by design and central to initiatives bringing critical scraping and operations capabilities in‑house while strengthening local engineering excellence.

You will:

  • Lead and develop an in‑house data scraping and operations team based in Aalborg

  • Coach developers and students entering the data scraping talent pipeline

  • Support hiring, onboarding, and capability‑building to expand internal expertise

  • Design, build, and maintain scrapers, ingestion workflows, and validation routines

  • Provide architectural direction across the Pre‑Trade technology stack, including Python‑based services and event‑driven pipelines

  • Drive modernisation and consolidation of scraper frameworks and ingestion strategies

  • Ensure stable, accurate, and timely data ingestion across markets and asset classes

  • Balance day‑to‑day operational support with delivery of roadmap‑driven enhancements

Success in this role is measured by improved data availability and scraper reliability, effective onboarding and development of new Aalborg developers, and strong stakeholder satisfaction across Trading, Analytics, and Engineering. Delivering roadmap items related to scraper consolidation and ingestion modernisation, as well as building a high‑performing, cohesive local team that works seamlessly with offshore support, are key indicators of achievement.

About You

The ideal candidate is a technically strong and proactive leader who enjoys remaining close to code while enabling others to grow. This person is comfortable operating in high‑pressure environments, communicates clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders, and takes ownership of both delivery and team development. A structured mindset and enthusiasm for continuous improvement are essential.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Strong hands‑on development experience using Python and C#/.NET

  • Experience with data ingestion pipelines, scrapers, or automation frameworks as well as operational data quality and time‑series validation

  • Familiarity with technologies such as ClickHouse, Postgres, Kafka, and messaging systems

  • Understanding of cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and observability practices

  • Proven experience leading and mentoring engineers while remaining technically active

  • Exposure to market data, trading workflows, or high‑frequency ingestion environments

  • Knowledge of medallion architecture concepts such as Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers

  • Interest in applying AI‑based or agentic workflows to data ingestion or operational processes
