The Enterprise Risk Manager plays a key role to develop and sustain the professional credibility and value which the Group Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team brings to Business Unit leadership teams, functional management and risk colleagues across Centrica. The role needs to contribute to the quality of enterprise risk analysis and related risk management activities, bringing added insight, a fresh perspective and challenge to increase the quality of risk conversations and improve the robustness of ERM capabilities across the organisation.

About the Role:

  • Ability to build and sustain positive working relationships with Centrica Business Units, Functional leadership and risk colleagues across the organisation

  • Contribute strategic risk insight to management decision making through facilitating strategic and emerging risk workshops, the sourcing of relevant subject matter expertise and external sector risk perspectives

  • In line with the approved ERM strategy and principles, produce risk information for consideration by the Board, Audit & Risk Committee and Executive through collation, aggregation, calibration, and analysis

  • Contribute independent challenge, insight and guidance to Business Unit / Function risk assessments, in particular consider the validity and articulation of identified risks, severity ratings and the relevance of the controls and the risk response actions which have been committed to

  • Play a lead role in the implementation and maturing of ERM across the organisation; communicating the benefits, reinforce good practices, deliver training, support and coaching as required

  • Maintain a curious, continually learning mindset, developing knowledge and insight into the strategy and business operations of the ERM Manager’s allocated business unit, functional and sectoral alignment and keep abreast of ERM industry and technical developments as part of ongoing development as an ERM specialist

  • Assist with the training and roll-out of relevant IT and other systems to support the capture, analysis and reporting of risks and control effectiveness

  • Lead role in furthering the alignment of ERM activities across the lines of defence including collaborating with the Group Internal Audit, Functional, Controls, Compliance and other relevant colleagues

About You:

  • Several years' experience of applying advanced enterprise risk management and or internal audit skills in a large organisation or consultancy

  • Good understanding of ERM frameworks, methodologies, and internal controls

  • Have the ability to influence, persuade and build strong relationships with key senior stakeholders

  • Proven ability to take a methodical and innovative approach to problem solving, including to identify and evaluate strategic objectives, key risks and internal control mechanisms and focus on important issues

  • Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills with advanced ability to clearly communicate risk management concepts

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong planning and organisational skills

  • Ability to foster a positive risk aware culture throughout the organisation

  • Comfortable using technology and data to drive risk insight

  • Experience in supporting risk, control and/or transformation projects within a large, complex, matrixed organisation is preferred

  • Experience in a highly regulated industry is a plus

Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline that aligns with ERM competencies (eg Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Strategy, Legal and Regulatory, Engineering) or a related field desirable; or relevant industry experience

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Enterprise Risk Manager (CERM), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or equivalent

  • Demonstrable excellence in extra mural achievements indicative of skills in networking, collaboration, teaming and an action-oriented mindset (eg sporting, research, academic, charitable or other social or team leadership capabilities)
