What is so interesting about the Energy industry?

The energy market is quite simply one of the fasting changing industries across the world as traditional objectives of simply selling gas and electricity have been transformed by global change. This means renewable energy, our carbon footprint and Net Zero in conjunction with Smart technologies and energy efficiency have become directly connected to our global future.

What is the position?

You, along with your colleagues, will support key business processes and ensure the best possible flow of information between customers, suppliers, and shippers. There is no expectation of prior industry knowledge as comprehensive training will be given.


This opportunity will appeal to you if you wish to work across different aspect of IT, with elements of development work, testing, business analysis, design and working closely with various business units. If successful, you’ll have the opportunity to be hands on with the IT systems that underpin the utility retail market systems.

What are we are looking for?

  • Enthusiasm, energy, a willingness to learn and an aptitude to problem solve
  • A forensic level of attention to detail
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science (or a similar data related discipline with database skills)
  • Excellent SQL and knowledge of the Service Development Lifecycle
  • Experience with Oracle databases, Amazon Web Services and Jira would be a plus

  • The role will provide comprehensive training to familiarise the candidates with Bord Gais Energy and the Irish energy industry knowledge
  • Training on multiple IT systems, exposure to agile project management and the entire Service Development Life Cycle
  • Within 3 weeks, the successful candidate would be able to assist in the support the day-to-day operations of the Industry and Smart Team
