Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

We’re the pride of Ireland. Bord Gáis Energy have been powering the nation’s homes and businesses for almost 40 years. But now, we’re so much more than just gas and electric. Through our unique combination of household heroes and energy assets, we’re at the heart of the energy transition in Ireland, strengthening the country’s energy security and helping customers get ready for a net zero future.

Director of Retail Technology – Bord Gais

Dublin

The role

The Director of Retail Technology – Bord Gáis is accountable for the end‑to‑end leadership, operation, and strategic evolution of the Bord Gáis Retail technology estate (covering Centrica Home and Centrica Business).

This role ensures that Retail Technology delivers secure, resilient, and scalable platforms that support growth, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and customer outcomes across Bord Gáis and the wider retail ecosystem. With full accountability for ensuring AI and automation adoption and data, this role owns both “run” and “change”—balancing day‑to‑day performance with delivery of the agreed strategic roadmap.

Key responsibilities

End‑to‑End Technology Ownership

  • Full accountability for running the Bord Gáis Retail technology estate, including platform health, resilience, cost, risk, and operational performance, ensuring appropriate adoption of automation and AI
  • Ownership of the integrated technology roadmap, aligning tech strategy and roadmaps for Ireland, ensuring end to end value stream dependencies are understood and appropriately maintained and aligned to the Bord Gáis business strategy and Centrica Retail priorities
  • Accountable for technology decisions across core, customer, channels, data, and integration platforms, for Bord Gais, ensuring reuse and simplification where possible
  • Running the current Retail Technology team for Bord Gais, with a view to implementing a matrix model for shared services across Retail and specialist market knowledge remaining in the team

Strategic Delivery & Transformation

  • Lead the implementation of the strategic technology roadmap, translating strategy into prioritised, outcome‑led delivery plans for Bord Gais, and wider Centrica Retail initiatives when required
  • Ensure transformation initiatives deliver measurable business value, reduced cost‑to‑serve, and improved customer and colleague experience
  • Act as the senior technology counterpart to Bord Gáis & Centrica Home leadership, shaping investment decisions and trade‑offs

Governance, Performance & Value Realisation

  • Define, track, and report a clear set of performance and value metrics for Bord Gais, including:

o Platform stability, resilience, and incident performance

o Delivery progress against roadmap

o Cost, investment, and benefits realisation

o Risk, controls, and regulatory compliance

  • Ensure technology value is explicit, visible, and evidenced through data and outcomes
  • Key stakeholder in the quarterly Salesforce CIO forums and for all related procurement and licencing activity

Stakeholder & Forum Leadership

  • Attend and lead relevant technology, business, and governance forums, acting as the accountable technology voice
  • Partner closely with Product, Operations, Finance, Security, Architecture, and Engineering to ensure joined‑up delivery
  • Build strong relationships with Centrica Technology and external partners to enable effective execution

Leadership Expectations

  • Operate as a single point of accountability, with clarity, pace, and decisiveness
  • Balance strategic thinking with operational grip
  • Create a culture of ownership, transparency, and outcome driven delivery
  • Lead through influence as well as authority in a complex, federated environment

Experience and technical skills required

Stakeholder & Leadership Skills

  • Highly effective relationship builder, able to operate with credibility across Technology, Retail leadership, and Group functions
  • Strong influencing skills without formal authority; able to align senior leaders behind a common direction
  • Calm, authoritative presence in senior forums; confident representing the Retail CIO in their absence
  • Acts as a cultural role model, reinforcing expected behaviours around collaboration, accountability, and delivery

Essential

  • Significant senior leadership experience in a large, complex technology organisation, operating at or close to executive level
  • Proven experience working directly with a CIO / CTO or equivalent senior executive, acting with delegated authority and representing them in senior forums
  • Demonstrated experience driving execution across multiple technology portfolios, balancing strategic priorities with operational delivery
  • Strong background in technology operating models, including product‑led or platform‑led delivery, with clear understanding of how strategy translates into delivery, run, and outcomes
  • Experience operating in a highly regulated environment, with strong appreciation of governance, risk, controls, and executive accountability
  • Evidence of enterprise‑level stakeholder management, influencing senior business leaders, finance, HR, and external partners
  • Deep understanding of technology delivery and run, including dependencies across architecture, engineering, operations, security, and suppliers
  • Strong execution discipline: setting cadence, tracking outcomes, surfacing risks early, and driving follow‑through
  • Ability to prioritise ruthlessly, balancing short‑term operational demands with longer‑term strategic outcomes
  • Comfortable operating across ambiguity, making progress where ownership or accountability is diffused

Desirable

  • Experience supporting Retail, Consumer, Energy, or Utilities‑scale organisations
  • Exposure to large‑scale transformation programmes, including simplification, platform consolidation, automation, and AI‑enabled change
  • Experience in financial management at scale, including budget oversight, investment prioritisation, and cost optimisation across technology estates

Split of activity between Bord Gais and Centrica Home is expected to be 60:40, with at least 3 days a month in the UK.
