Vehicle Dynamics and Simulation Engineer
Job Description
About You
You will be an enthusiastic and curious engineer with a passion for motorsport and a willingness to learn from our wide range of vehicle dynamics, modelling, and simulation experts.
Through experience in Formula Student, motorsport internships, or part-time race engineering and performance engineering roles, you will have developed background knowledge in vehicle performance and vehicle science that provides the foundation for further learning in the field of software and applied mathematics.
You might have interests beyond motorsport in areas such as human performance, sailing, or aerospace, which could all contribute to future product development at Canopy.
Responsibilities
This is a graduate role in which we will provide a lot of on-the-job training and learning opportunities. The responsibilities can vary depending on your area of interest and aptitude. As an example, your responsibilities at Canopy could include:
Developing our state-of-the-art vehicle model and simulation tool in response to changing client requirements and motorsport regulations
Evaluating the performance of new and existing features in the vehicle model and simulation tool against real-world expectations to identify potential bugs and improve simulation results
Liaising with clients to translate feedback and requests into clear written and verbal specifications for new features, and then implementing these features to enable clients to extract the best possible value from our tools
Contributing to our suite of in-house test, development, and visualisation tools used for automated validation of our software releases
Skills and Experience
Applicants must have the following skills and experience:
Experience in race car vehicle dynamics, vehicle science, vehicle performance, or vehicle modelling through internships, student projects, or work experience
Experience in numerical simulation, optimisation, control of nonlinear systems, or a related field
Prior coding experience in an object oriented language – C++ is an advantage
Demonstrable ability in physical modelling, in particular an understanding of the maths and physics underlying physical systems and an ability to solve complex problems using existing knowledge and tools
A desire to work remotely, with great written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with our highly talented team of remote engineers
Prerequisites
You must be a tax resident in the UK to apply for this role. At this stage we are regrettably unable to offer visa sponsorship.
Experience of motorsport through university projects, internships, or professional work is a requirement for this role, though note that this does not need to have been a full time or a paid position.
While a STEM degree is not a strict requirement, our technical interviewing process is rigorous and we find that those with academic qualifications fare better through this process.
