Canopy Simulations
At Canopy Simulations we observed that team after team will re-invent the same laptime simulation technology, with varying degrees of success. We realised that we could end the wasteful “not invented here” mentality, and get vehicle dynamicists back to focusing on what they do best; finding lap time. We combined our decades of expertise to create the most advanced car model, simulations and data analysis tools yet seen in Formula One or any other motorsport division. Then we unleashed their true potential using the power of cloud computing.
The Canopy Platform has been built around these tools, enabling anyone to leapfrog the competition to have best-in-class simulation capability at a fraction of the cost of developing in-house.
Our SaaS platform is used by OEMs around the world, and in every major motorsport series, including Formula 1, Formula E, World Endurance Championship, Indycar, to name a few.
In April 2023 Canopy became part of the Michelin Group, so while we maintain our scale-up ethos, we enjoy the support and opportunities conferred by being part of an established global organisation.
The video below was made in 2024 and Rowland and Alex have been promoted since then, (and we've got a new logo!), but it is still a good window into working at Canopy.

we're looking for
Canopy creates the most advanced, reliable, and intuitive vehicle simulation package at all levels of motor racing. Our elite team of engineers collaborate to realise performance gains for teams at the cutting edge of motorsport.
We look for engineers and developers with expertise in simulation development, vehicle dynamics, numerical modelling, optimal control theory, and commercial C++, as well as full stack developers expert in C#, .NET and Angular.
Approach to inclusion
As a small but growing SaaS business, we believe diversity and inclusion are essential to building better products and a healthier workplace. We’re committed to creating an environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and empowered to contribute. We actively seek diverse perspectives, treat people fairly, and strive to foster a culture of openness, curiosity, and belonging. We know we’re on a journey — and we’re always learning.
Engineering faces significant challenges regarding diversity, with low representation of women and minorities, which impacts innovation and problem-solving in the field.
We see this as a pipeline problem, and think it is important that children are given the opportunities to engage with STEM subjects, and the right direction and advice when it comes to their educational choices. This is why Canopy is a signatory to the Tomorrow’s Engineers Code, which unites more than 300 organisations of all types, shapes and sizes with a shared goal: to increase the diversity and number of young people entering engineering and technology careers.
Flexible working at Canopy Simulations
We are fully remote (always have been) and every member of the team is trusted to do the best work they can, in the way that works best for them.
Some of us prefer to start and finish earlier in the day, while the night-owls among us log on a little later.
We don't mind when personal commitments and appointments take someone away from their desk - we know that we get the best from people when they don't have to ask permission to do life admin. If you have caring responsibilities, such as school-pick-ups or other regular (or adhoc) commitments, we want to accommodate those if we can.
Team members often work away from home or mix holidays and work to extend their leave. As long as you're tax resident in the UK, we don't mind where you work (as long as you're in a similar time-zone).
When you join Canopy, there is a week of in-person onboarding to get you up to speed, with regular opportunities to meet with your colleagues in person beyond that.
We are located all over the UK, but we meet as a whole team a few times a year for fun activities like karting, a Crystal Maze challenge, and laser tag, and of course a jolly good lunch.
We stay connected using Slack, as well as regular video calls and catch ups, and we meet in person too. Some team members also use co-working spaces, which we are happy to fund.
