Test and Development Engineer

About You 

In this role you will contribute to Canopy’s growing performance simulation software and test and development ecosystem, improving the reliability and quality of the lap time simulation tools and vehicle modelling platform that we provide to customers. 

As part of the role you will be exposed to both internal and customer-driven developments, and will develop test suites and validation harnesses that allow us to increase the throughput of new developments while maintaining absolute confidence in our reliability and physical accuracy. You will be a key part of our software development life cycle, contributing to requirements and specifications as well as testing and release. 

Experience in motorsport or physical modelling is an advantage, as is experience of scripting using Python. 

Responsibilities 

As a Test and Development Engineer at Canopy, you will: 

• Take ownership of the testing, validation, and integration phases of our automated test and release pipeline. 

• Evaluating the performance of new and existing features in the vehicle model and simulation tool against real-world expectations to identify potential bugs and improve simulation results. 

• Collaborate with developers to define and implement test cases and procedures that validate every new Canopy software release – contributing to more extensive and more robust testing of new releases. 

• Build and verify new test harnesses and test suites for systems including real-time software across multiple different operating systems including Linux, Windows, and real-time systems.  

• Use industry standard QA tools to contribute to the automated testing of our web platform, user interface and supporting API 

Skills and Experience 

Applicants to this role should have as a minimum: 

• Two years’ experience in a related field: software development, testing, QA, vehicle performance/vehicle science, or software certification 

• Professional experience with python, distributed software development, and source control  

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Beneficial, but not essential skills include: 

• Experience across a range of different motorsport series, including electric/hybrid cars 

One of the following would be an advantage: 

• Professional experience with MatLab/Simulink 

• Experience with Playwright, MSTest, Typescript, Angular is an advantage but not essential 

• Experience working with DevOps tooling and continuous integration systems 

Prerequisites 

You must be a tax resident in the UK to apply for this role. At this stage we are regrettably unable to offer visa sponsorship. 

A degree in STEM is not essential, but relevant experience (apprenticeships, professional experience, personal portfolios) would be necessary instead.
