About the role

  • Operates within BT Networks Cloud Services – supporting and enabling integrated tooling across BT Networks to underpin the business-critical products BT offers its customers.
  • Works within a platform engineering and automation team, building and maintaining internal tooling, services, and integrations that support collaboration and operational workflows across BT.
  • Focuses on full-stack development, spanning backend services, APIs, frontend interfaces, and integrations with enterprise systems (identity, data, and third-party platforms).
  • Contributes to cloud-based platforms and internal developer tooling, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
    Designs and delivers high-quality, production-grade software used by thousands of internal users, improving efficiency and reducing manual processes.
  • Builds robust APIs, services, and user-facing applications that enable self-service and streamline complex workflows.
    Drives improvements in performance, reliability, and security across critical internal systems.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and user interfaces
  • Write clean, well-tested code for production systems
  • Design and develop scalable, reliable applications
  • Work with other engineers to deliver features end to end
  • Collaborate with platform, security, and business teams to solve problems
  • Review code and support others to improve quality
  • Debug issues and fix defects in live systems
  • Improve performance, reliability, and system design
  • Automate repetitive tasks and manual processes
  • Contribute to technical design discussions and decisions

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Strong experience in full-stack development (frontend and backend)
  • Good knowledge of at least one backend language (e.g., Python, Java, or Node.js)
  • Experience building and using APIs
  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React or similar)
  • Ability to write clean, well-structured, and well-tested code
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working with cloud-based systems and services
  • Understanding of version control (e.g., Git) and team-based development
  • Ability to work with others and communicate clearly
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience designing scalable and reliable systems
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment
  • Knowledge of databases (SQL or NoSQL) and data modelling
  • Experience improving performance and fixing complex issues
  • Understanding of security best practices in software development
  • Experience working on internal platforms or developer tooling
  • Familiarity Atlassian Cloud suite and Forge platform for plugin development
  • Experience contributing to technical design decisions
