Job Description

Job Req ID: 63684

Posting Date: 16th October 2026

Function: People & Culture

Location: London, Birmingham, Bristol or Manchester

About the role

The Workforce Capability & Readiness Lead is responsible for shaping the future workforce of BT Business, translating business strategy, transformation priorities and emerging technologies into a clear view of the capabilities, workforce changes and organisational evolution required for long-term success.

Working across BT Business, this role will identify and articulate the capability shifts arising from transformation programmes, AI adoption, operating model evolution and other strategic change initiatives. It will bring these together into a single, integrated view, connecting changes in workforce capability with their wider impact on teams and the organisation.

The role will act as a bridge between business ambition and workforce execution, partnering with Business Leaders, including those in Transformation, to translate technological and strategic change into workforce capability requirements. Working closely with P&C Directors and their teams, the role will ensure these implications are understood, operating model changes are considered, and appropriate people interventions are identified and planned.

Partnering with Business Leaders and Functional Change Leads, the Workforce Capability & Readiness Lead will provide independent challenge, assess organisational readiness for change, and proactively identify workforce risks, dependencies and opportunities for intervention.

Ultimately, the role will ensure that people and capability considerations are embedded in transformation decisions, helping BT Business build the workforce capabilities needed to deliver its strategic ambitions and sustain future growth.

What you’ll be doing

Workforce Capability & Change Readiness

•Shape and drive the future capability strategy for BT Business, translating business ambitions, operating model decisions, AI adoption and transformation roadmaps into clear, prioritised workforce capability requirements.
•Build an integrated view of future workforce needs by bringing together capability changes across major transformation programmes and technology deployments. Partner with P&C and Business Leaders to understand the implications for roles, career pathways and workforce composition, ensuring these are reflected in workforce plans.
•Influence transformation priorities and investment decisions by using change roadmaps, scenario planning and workforce insights to inform the sequencing of people activity, operating model decisions and future capability development.
•Identify opportunities to build critical capabilities through reskilling, upskilling and targeted development, ensuring investment is focused on the skills and capabilities that will have the greatest impact on growth, productivity and customer outcomes.
•Lead the P&C assessment of workforce impacts arising from transformation programmes, working with Business Leaders and P&C teams to ensure people implications are understood and assessed holistically across BT Business, rather than in individual programmes or functions.
•Partner with Learning & Development to translate capability insights into targeted learning and development interventions that prepare colleagues for evolving roles, new technologies and future ways of working.
•Establish a consistent approach to assessing workforce readiness across transformation programmes, working closely with Functional Change Leads to understand capability gaps, organisational impacts and readiness to adopt and sustain change.
•Provide independent challenge and oversight on the business’s readiness to deliver and embed workforce change, proactively identifying risks, dependencies and capability gaps, and escalating material issues through the appropriate leadership and governance forums.
•Provide clear, integrated executive reporting on capability priorities, workforce readiness, transition progress, key risks and the decisions needed to keep BT Business on track for successful transformation.

Operating Model & Change Frameworks

•Embed a clear and consistent approach to managing change across BT Business, ensuring roles, responsibilities and accountabilities are understood and applied throughout the organisation.
•Drive the adoption of the Change & Adoption Operating Model, embedding consistent standards, frameworks and methodologies to support effective change delivery and sustainable adoption.
•Equip P&C Partners with practical frameworks and guidance to assess workforce impacts, support business decision-making and apply a consistent approach to change and capability planning within their areas.
•Maintain and continuously improve operating model frameworks and playbooks for BT Business, ensuring they remain relevant, effective and aligned with evolving business priorities and transformation needs.

Essential Skills / Experience

•Workforce Transformation: Experience leading complex, large-scale workforce transformation initiatives, understanding the impact of technology and major change programmes on workforce capabilities, and translating these into effective workforce change plans.
•Executive Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to influence and challenge senior leaders, build alignment across large organisations, and communicate complex workforce issues clearly to support executive decision-making.
•Data & Insight: Ability to interpret workforce, capability and business data, using evidence and scenario analysis to identify insights and shape strategic people decisions, including operating model changes, reskilling and capability development.

Desirable Skills / Experience

•AI & Digital Workforce Expertise: Understanding of how AI, digital technologies and automation are reshaping workforce capabilities, roles and ways of working.
•Change & Transformation Adoption: Experience supporting and embedding large-scale business transformation, with an understanding of change management and adoption principles.
