About the role

  • This role drives the continual advancement of strong security capability, skills and culture using Secure by Design as a foundational goal.
  • It strives to develop a federated approach to 1st line security by empowering the business to act for itself with guidance from Security.
  • It advances the security architecture to enable the business to advance positively with confidence in security.
  • It ensures that all activity the business engages in is delivered in a fashion that minimizes risk overall to within established patterns and guardrails.
  • It supports the delivery of the overall security strategy and gives the business the tools needed to align to the strategy with minimal disruption and effort.
  • It acts as a role model for security, with authority and empowered to drive the business to see security as a shared responsibility.

This role is hybrid (3 days in office) in either Birmingham or London

What you’ll be doing

  • Leads the business to deploy secure solutions utilising established design patterns wherever possible.
  • Ensures that all consultancy activities are recorded/maintained in an auditable and timely fashion with sufficient quality.
  • Takes the lead on sharing applicable knowledge to maintain a record of security experiences.
  • Documents design patterns where gaps for repeatable controls need to be closed.
  • Champions the advancement of security knowledge and awareness throughout the business, and acts as a security coach to relevant stakeholders
  • Takes a solution minded approach to all problems, finding the appropriate balance between business need and security response.
  • Evangelises a security aware culture through all interactions.
  • Continuously strives for improved security outcomes by looking for ways to improve the end-to-end security experience and acting appropriately.
  • Provides strong authoritative and consistent guidance and challenges/ guides the business on potential decisions when appropriate.
  • Co-ordinates the security response with other security stakeholders, acting with transparency and integrity.
  • Takes ownership of their own development and plans accordingly
  • Assesses, escalates and reports on point risk that may affect the business
  • Writes and delivers training material according to the stakeholders with which they are engaged to continuously improve the security skills in the wider business.
  • Acts as a bridge to security architecture priorities to ensure these are considered and deployed where appropriate.
  • Takes a wider programmatic view of all security demand to consider the bigger picture of solution decisions.
  • Utilises threat modelling techniques to ensure solutions are adopting best practice controls.
  • Actively engages in and monitors wider industry response to the changing security landscape.
  • May lead on a specific technical specialist area/domain and act an authoritative decision maker.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience knowledge and experience of one or more security domains.
  • Previous experience with Mobile or Fixed Line Networks, or IT security.
  • A strong ability to work on their own initiative, prioritise and manage customer expectations
  • Able to work collaboratively across teams to meet security objectives
  • An ability to demonstrate an open-minded attitude, objectivity and confidence to provide a consultancy-based service
  • Personal drive to take ownership of ones’ own delivery and influence/negotiate with other stakeholders.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Preferably a degree qualification or Security Qualification required
