About the role
This role sits within our Design System team, as a Product Design Specialist.
As a Product Designer on this cross-functional team, you’ll Design and build high‑quality components, patterns, interactions, and behaviors that power BT’s products and user experiences—demonstrating excellence in crafting complex components and scalable, property‑driven architectures, including deeply nested instances.
You will cater to two types of users:
Internal design and engineering teams: You'll collaborate cross-functionally to ensure teams are well-supported and have what they need to design their features.
Customers and agents: Those who use and interact with our products.
What you’ll be doing
1: Generate components, patterns, interactions, and behaviours which define our design system and underpin BT’S products and user experience
2: You'll collaborate cross-functionally to ensure teams are well-supported and have what they need to design their features.
3: Work to drive excellence in Design standards, usability and accessibility within the Design Chapter
4: Research and validate the best patterns when it comes ARC components
5: Work to populate, structure and build the ARC Community Library, driving greater reuse of components and journeys
6: contribute to the overall strategy of the design system and evolving look and feel of BT’s digital presence.
7. Builds meaningful internal relationships, contributes to a culture of design excellence and promotes a user-centred way of working
8. Implements continuous improvement opportunities to improve the design team processes, ensuring a consistent and coherent process to manage design quality and collaboration across squads
9. Mentor other product designers, helping to improve the team’s craft and meet ambitions as well as act as a technical resource
Essential Skills / Experience
Strong attention to detail and a natural eye for design.
Proficiency in crafting Figma components using variants and properties.
Expert in the full Figma suite (including Figma Make), staying up to date with the latest capabilities (e.g. slots, extended collections) to create flexible, future‑ready components and workflows.
Extensive experience in product design, particularly in Design System and Design Language development.
Ability to take a project from ideation to completion, with exceptional UI skills and a good understanding of UX practices.
Systems thinking and the ability to make rational, logical design decisions.
Knowledge of modern and emerging web and mobile UI patterns and design tools.
Passionate about continuous learning and advancing your craft.
Good technical background with an understanding of User-Centered Design, and experience in applying research and usability testing methodologies.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.
Experience working in agile squads.
Enthusiastic about design and a great team player.
Strong presentation skills and knowledge-sharing abilities.
A strong working knowledge of Figma Variables
Experience working across different platforms and form factor
