About the role

This role is critical to shaping and delivering BT’s procurement strategy within the Network Category, ensuring the organisation achieves sustainable value, cost efficiency, and strategic advantage.
As a Procurement Manager, you will lead the execution of category management and strategic sourcing activities, driving best-in-class procurement practices across the business. This includes developing and implementing robust procurement frameworks, policies, and processes that ensure consistency, compliance, and operational excellence.


You will play a key role in building strong, collaborative relationships with both internal stakeholders and strategic suppliers, enabling effective decision-making and unlocking innovation and value. Through your expertise and leadership, you will help strengthen procurement capability across the organisation, supporting the delivery of key business and transformation objectives.
Ultimately, this role contributes to maximising commercial outcomes, managing risk, and ensuring BT remains competitive in a dynamic and evolving market.

What you’ll be doing

Strategic

  • Accountable for developing and delivering the savings pipeline, category strategies, and sourcing plans through effective planning and execution of sourcing, supplier, and risk management activities.
  • Build and maintain deep category expertise, applying best practices across sourcing approaches, supplier selection, total cost of ownership (TCO), and negotiation strategies.

Operational

  • Identify and deliver business improvements by leveraging commercial, design, and process levers to minimise total cost of ownership.
  • Collaborate with procurement colleagues, technical teams to execute category plans and sourcing activities, ensuring delivery against key performance metrics and alignment across business units.
  • Ensure adherence to procurement policies, processes, and governance frameworks.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support business objectives and drive key delivery and transformation programmes.

Key Activities

  • Manage and optimise category spend and performance, developing and delivering category strategies that drive long-term value and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and deliver end-to-end sourcing projects, including complex commercial negotiations and contractual arrangements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed and implement category strategies across all levels of the organisation.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships to secure alignment, drive engagement, and support delivery aligned to BT’s values.
  • Manage key supplier relationships, negotiating commercial and contractual terms to ensure performance, compliance, and continuous innovation.
  • Provide effective business partnering support across all business units, enabling informed decision-making and value delivery.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Strategic Procurement and Sourcing Expertise: Demonstrated experience leading strategic procurement activities, with a strong ability to design and execute sourcing strategies that deliver sustainable value, cost efficiencies, and effective risk management.
  • Software Sourcing and Licensing Knowledge: Strong background in software procurement, including a deep understanding of complex licensing models, commercial structures, and supplier dynamics, enabling informed decision-making and optimisation of total cost of ownership.
  • Category Strategy Development: Proven ability to develop, implement, and continuously evolve category strategies that align to business objectives, drive performance, and embed best-in-class procurement practices across the organisation.
  • Commercial Negotiation and Contract Management: Solid track record of leading complex commercial negotiations, confidently managing contractual terms, and securing outcomes that balance business needs, supplier performance, and long-term value creation.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Senior Stakeholder Engagement and Influencing: Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships at Director and SMT level, confidently engaging, influencing, and driving outcomes across a complex, matrix organisation.
  • Communication and Presentation Excellence: Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas, deliver impactful presentations, and support effective decision-making at senior levels.
  • Performance Delivery and Decision-Making: Demonstrated track record of sound commercial judgement and consistent delivery against defined performance metrics, ensuring high-quality outcomes in fast-paced environments.
