Job Description

Job Req ID: 63495

Posting Date: 23rd October 2026

Function: People & Culture

Location: Birmingham or Bristol

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced People Relations Case Professional to join us during a pivotal period of transformation within People & HR Services at BT Group.

As a senior Employee Relations advisor, you will provide expert advice on complex ER cases, working closely with business leaders to guide them through the OneHR framework. You will use data and insights to inform your approach, ensuring advice is commercially sound, risk-aware, and aligned to best practice, with wellbeing and inclusion at the heart of decision-making.

You will also play a key role in coaching and upskilling managers, helping to build capability and enhance the overall colleague experience across BT Group.

Your contributions will be critical in driving operational excellence as we expand and deliver a broader range of services. In addition, you will help safeguard the organisation against legal, financial, and reputational risk in how we support our colleagues.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact function during a time of significant change.

What you’ll be doing

•Managing a high-volume caseload of Employee Relations matters, including grievance, disciplinary, performance, and absence cases
•Providing expert, timely advice to managers in line with employment law, internal policy, and the ACAS Code of Practice
•Supporting managers to deliver fair, consistent, and commercially sound outcomes, with wellbeing and inclusion at the centre
•Using data and insight to inform decisions, identify risks, and improve case outcomes
•Coaching and upskilling managers to build confidence and capability in handling people matters
•Ensuring all cases are managed efficiently, meeting SLAs and maintaining accurate records within case management systems
•Managing conflict resolution, including facilitated conversations and mediation where appropriate
•Collaborating with HR, Legal, and wider stakeholders to support business priorities and mitigate risk
•Acting as an escalation point for complex cases and supporting the development of less experienced colleagues
•Contributing to continuous improvement of ER processes, policies, and ways of working

Essential Skills / Experience

•Strong knowledge of employment law and the ACAS Code of Practice, with the ability to apply this in a practical, commercial context
•Effective negotiation and decision-making skills, with the ability to reach balanced, fair outcomes in complex situations
•Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise a high-volume workload and manage competing demands

Desirable Skills / Experience

•Experience managing a broad range of Employee Relations cases within a high-volume, fast-paced environment
•Ability to use data and insight to identify trends, inform casework, and proactively manage risk
•Experience building strong relationships and influencing stakeholders across different levels of the organisation
•Confidence contributing to training, coaching managers, and supporting capability building within ER
•A proactive, continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to challenge existing practices and enhance policies and processes
•Strong IT and systems experience, including case management systems and Microsoft Office tools
•Experience working within unionised environments or supporting Employment Tribunal cases
•Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CIPD Level 5) or equivalent experience
