About the role

The Network Engineering Specialist provides technical leadership to the engineering teams delivering reliable, resilient, and operable network solutions across global backbone network domains. The role ensures delivery cost effectiveness, quality, operational readiness, automation readiness, observability, security, and compliance.
They coordinate with product line, design, implementation, service and operations specialists to deliver platform capacity and performance, evaluating vendor contributions, and achieving customer‑centred outcomes. The role challenges inefficiencies and ensures network solutions are delivered safely, consistently, and in a way that is supportable and compliant with organisational standards.

What you’ll be doing

  • Owns network capacity strategy, utilisation reporting, investment recommendations.
  • Lead network growth modelling using network data and product forecasts to develop business cases for expansion.
  • Lead on defining requirements for modelling tools and network data analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership for engineering teams delivering end to end network solutions across the global network domains, contributing to defining standards for design, build, testing, validation, and operational handover, using consistent, automatable delivery patterns and operability by design principles. Developing and leveraging AI tools to optimise network cost to SLA performance.
  • Manage stakeholder and customer expectations across scope, cost, schedule, and operational readiness, communicating clearly and working with senior technical, delivery, and commercial teams to support successful outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering procedures, policies, and delivery practices, ensuring alignment with operability, automation readiness, security, and risk control expectations.
  • Ensure adherence to company and platform security controls, in processes handling network and customer data.
  • Establish frameworks to support managers that oversee day to day network capacity management, ensuring capacity is available to support customer demand, with observability coverage of key capacity metrics. accurate OSS / Business Support Systems (BSS) data, and strong collaboration with operational and assurance teams.
  • Seak out, evaluate and prioritise the implementation of opportunities for optimisation of performance and or cost.
  • Use analytics, performance indicators, utilisation and health insight to inform capacity planning, operational prioritisation, engineering improvements, and data driven decision making.
  • Maintain high-quality engineering artefacts, including documentation, procedures, standards, and dashboards, ensuring consistency, audit readiness, traceability, and operational efficiency.
  • Coach and develop engineering capability across planning, implementation, and operations, uplifting skills in automation, observability and modern engineering practices, and supporting effective engagement with vendors and managed service partners.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Strong data analysis skills, ability to manipulate data with SQL, Python, Excel
  • Ability to curate dashboards for the teams using Jira, Qlik, Grafana or other tools
  • Proven experience leveraging AI-driven tools and insights to solve complex business problems and deliver tangible operational improvements. This may include:
    • Accelerating end-to-end (E2E) processes and reducing cycle times
    • Streamlining workflows to improve efficiency and effectiveness
    • Optimising network performance, cost, and customer outcomes
  • Applicants will be expected to demonstrate their experience through real-world examples, supported by evidence of the outcomes and business value achieved.
  • An understanding of IP networking, traffic engineering, routing, network design and systems architecture.
  • Accelerating end-to-end (E2E) processes and reducing cycle times
  • Streamlining workflows to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Optimising network performance, cost, and customer outcomes
