About the role

The team plays a key role in delivering the Openreach Big bold plan, helping better service, broader coverage and faster speeds, through ensuring that the our network has the highest possible availabily and quality standards.

This role is essential to the inlife management of the Openreach network. You will be part of a CTiO team that leads on the development and deployment of new technologies, as well as sustaining legacy networks, to provide service reliability, network efficiency and continuous support of the UK broadband & Ethernet infrastructure development. You will be part of a team that manages its investment budget with our Vendors in order to sucessfully evaluate, deliver and install network components and upgrade programmes (Change Management). This role will help to deliver ongoing productivity improvements to ensure that the costs of managing a growing network are well controlled enabling future investments.

What you’ll be doing

• Delivery of network transformation through migration activites. Targetting networth growth points to improve customer satisfaction.
• New Technology introduction - including new network components to underpin new products and services
• Customer Service protection – Ensure Network intervention is delivered with minimal customer impact
• Service Excellence - work across Lines of Business, and with internal and external suppliers to deliver Best in Class Quality of Service.
• In life Network changes - Reliable for all complex in-life network changes for all ongoing Openreach NGA change programmes
• Network Faults - Be part of an innovative team that own the overall network fault analysis performance and make improvement recommendations, driving other parts of the business to improve service as necessary.
• Continuous improvement – Always striving to identify and develop cost reduction and revenue generation initiatives.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Strong team player, ability to work under pressure, meet timescales and focus on high quality service resolution.
• In depth knowledge of NGA network components, vendors and processes.
• Project delivery and project management knowledge beneficial.
• Strong Customer focus, anticipates what adds value to the customer and strives to improve service quality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, communicates simply and engages well, at all levels with the ability to engage across wider team
• Problem solving complex issues into simple tasks
• Delivery skills to create optimal technical plans and an eye for the detail to ensure smooth delivery.
• A commitment to continuous improvements and desire to maximise performance and potential.
• Broadband technologies (FTTx, VDSL2, G.FAST, GPON, Radio, PPPoE).
• Understanding of optical network is an added advantage.
• Hands on experience on Huawei, ECI and Nokia EMS.
• Adtran experience is desirable.
• Understanding of network configuration
• Experience in Continuous Integration and network level migration procedures
• Vendor liaison to concur network functionality and clarify requirements

Role specific responsibilities

• To work on technical projects/operational support tasks for their managers or sponsors independently with minimal guidance. This may involve working alone or as part of a wider project/support team, managing specific tasks.
• To draft reports and make recommendations to managers and project sponsors.
• To provide methodical and innovative input to projects/operational issues as well as support negotiations.
• May involve project teams involved in the delivery of specific tasks associated with ICT based business transformation programmes, judicious projects and change initiatives within time, cost and quality parameters.
• To lead the development and implementation and ongoing management of policies and procedures.
• To work with internal, external and third party suppliers.
• To act as a key contributor and provide advice to other groups on technical and operational issues.
• To personally participate in and contribute to BT wide professional community activities where applicable e.g. knowledge sharing, best practice within BT and external industry.
• To use the relevant BT wide professional community framework to raise their skills and those of their team to the recommended PC standards.
• Maintains a reputation for quality and delivery of their expertise to the business.
• Contributes to the definition of strategy and evolution and/or associated infrastructure investments for In-Life Capacity Management.
• Contributes to the transformation strategy for a network, platform or technology discipline in own area of expertise.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Experience in:
o Network change management processes
o Service Introduction & protection
o Network Fault & Data analysis
o Continuous Service improvement
o NOC environment
o Network Migration
• Knowledge of the NGA and Ethernet platforms and helping systems, including network components and vendors.
• Ability to run diagnostic tests to check for sync and broadband connectivity.
• To know when to ask for help and who to engage.
• To be able to prioritise workload and apply jeopardy management to the team’s work stack.
• To apply aligned processes to all activities.
• To inform the operations manager of all major and serious incidents and customer escalations. Provide support during such incidents and applying the correct incident criteria and incident management process based.
• Reporting and progressing all relevant system issues.
• Owning and updating team process documentation
• Understand the end to end process for managing the network, systems you are capable for and actively contribute to making it better for the customer.
• Delivery abilities to create optimal technical plans and an eye for the detail to ensure smooth delivery.
• Ability to work under minimal direction (Mandatory)
• Ability to gather and interpret Network Element alarms.
• Broadband technologies (FTTx, VDSL2, G.FAST, GPON, Radio, PPPoE).
• Understanding of optical network is an added advantage.
• Hands on experience on Nokia, ADTRAN, ECI & Huawei plateform..
• Experience in Continuous Integration and network level migration procedures
• OSS component (SRIMS, BerT, LLUMS and NGWFMT) experience beneficial but not essential.
