Job Description

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our specialist M&A HR team, supporting some of BT Group’s most complex and high-profile commercial transactions.

You’ll play a critical role in helping BT win and successfully deliver new business by providing expert HR advice on bids and transactions involving people transfers. Working across the whole of BT Group, you’ll help shape commercially viable people solutions while ensuring that employment law, TUPE requirements and employee risks are properly understood and managed.

This is a highly varied individual contributor role with plenty of autonomy. You’ll manage your own portfolio of bids and transactions, working closely with bid teams, People & Culture colleagues, Legal, Corporate Finance, Pensions and other specialist stakeholders

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the HR workstream for complex commercial bids and transactions involving people transfers, providing expert advice from initial assessment through to implementation.
  • Develop HR solutions, bid responses and people costings that support commercially competitive and legally compliant proposals.
  • Manage end-to-end TUPE activity, including identifying transferring populations, completing HR due diligence and supporting consultation and transition planning.
  • Review employment-related clauses within commercial contracts and advise on the associated people, legal and financial risks.
  • Support contract renegotiations and exit scenarios, as well as acquisitions, divestments, insourcing, outsourcing, joint ventures and integrations.
  • Manage multiple bids and projects at different stages, ensuring key activities are delivered accurately, on time and within budget.
  • Partner with bid teams, People & Culture Business Partners and subject-matter experts across BT Group to ensure people impacts are fully considered.
  • Influence senior stakeholders by clearly explaining the employee experience, commercial implications and risks associated with proposed decisions.
  • Build effective relationships with internal teams, external advisers, suppliers and other stakeholders involved in each transaction.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • A strong understanding of TUPE and how it applies to commercial transactions and the transfer of employees.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law, with the ability to apply it to complex people and commercial scenarios.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple bids or transactions and deliver against demanding deadlines.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience supporting the HR aspects of commercial bids, mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, insourcing, divestments or similar transactions.
  • Experience conducting HR due diligence and identifying employment-related risks, costs and liabilities.
  • Strong analytical skills, with confidence working through detailed workforce and employee data.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to influence and appropriately challenge senior colleagues.
  • Experience working across different business areas and bringing together input from HR, Legal, Finance, Pensions and other specialist teams.
  • The resilience and adaptability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities and workloads may change quickly.
  • Knowledge of BT Group’s structure, strategic priorities and commercial operations.

Join us at a pivotal moment for BT Business. We are executing a multi-year transformation to restore growth, modernise at scale and unlock new markets beyond connectivity. Our ambition is clear – return to sustainable revenue and EBITDA growth, strengthen our market position, and deliver meaningful shareholder value through disciplined execution and bold reinvention.

We are fundamentally reshaping the business – simplifying our portfolio, digitising our customer experience and building market-leading capability across cyber, AI and managed services, all powered by the UK’s leading fixed and mobile networks. This is a shift from a legacy connectivity provider to a modern, solutions-led, AI-first business that can truly differentiate in a competitive and fast-moving market.

With execution momentum building and a clear path to growth, the opportunity now is to scale what works, accelerate performance and fully realise our potential. This is about delivering against ambitious financial outcomes while transforming how we operate – creating a business that is simpler, faster, more innovative and easier to do business with.

If you want to be part of the team shaping the turnaround of a multi-billion-pound business – and building a stronger, more competitive BT for the future – this is your moment.
