Locations - Bristol or London

Hyrbid working - 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home

About the role

The Gigabit programme is a critical part of Openreach’s contribution to the UK Government’s Project Gigabit initiative, designed to close the digital divide by bringing gigabit capable full fibre broadband to hard to reach communities across the UK.

Over the next five years, Openreach will invest close to £1bn delivering government funded and co funded fibre infrastructure, supporting the rollout of gigabit connectivity to hundreds of thousands of rural homes and businesses under a national framework agreement with Building Digital UK (BDUK). This work represents one of the largest and most complex digital infrastructure programmes in the UK, spanning multiple regions and delivery models.

The Gigabit Finance Manager plays a key role in supporting this nationally significant programme, providing high quality financial and commercial insight to senior stakeholders. The role is focused on enabling strong investment decisions, ensuring robust financial control, and driving improved commercial and delivery performance across a multi year, government funded portfolio.

What you’ll be doing

  • Act as a trusted finance partner, translating complex data into clear, actionable insight
  • Partner with operational, commercial and transformation teams to challenge and shape long‑term delivery plans
  • Deliver financial insight across pace, cost and capacity trade‑offs to support decision making
  • Own the monthly reporting, outlook and Medium‑Term Plan (MTP) with end‑to‑end accountability for performance
  • Ensure strong linkage between operational drivers and financial outcomes, highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Lead engagement with BDUK, providing accurate and timely monthly reporting and financial updates
  • Act as the central finance interface to offshore support, ensuring timely, reviewed and approved inputs
  • Identify financial risks and improvement opportunities, translating these into practical delivery actions
  • Provide analysis to support optimal balance between direct labour and subcontractor capacity

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA)
  • Strong organisational skills with previous experience managing multiple priorities and financial projects simultaneously, often to tight and competing deadlines.
  • Stakeholder management and communication experience, who can tell the story of Gigabit business performance to finance and non finance audiences at all levels, both internally and externally, tailoring insight, data and analysis to the right level of detail. both internally and externally, tailoring insight, data and analysis to the right level of detail.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Strong accounting knowledge and commercial judgement, able to interpret contract terms into accurate accounting outcomes, effective working capital and cash flow management, and well informed commercial decisions.
  • A practical problem solver, able to tackle complex and evolving challenges by applying judgement, experience and insight to identify solutions and provide clear direction.
  • Trusted advisor and coach, providing guidance and specialist insight to colleagues within and beyond the immediate team, and helping to translate deep technical knowledge into practical operational application.
  • Leads and champions outcomes, effectively balancing and managing conflicting priorities to drive progress and results across the programme.
