Why this job matters

In this role you’ll manage the strategic transformation of BT’s Colleague facing Digital Workplace Identity and Authentication IT capabilities. You’ll be part of a team of strategic transformation leaders who are realising our vision to make BT a digital, lean-agile company, and you’ll be delivering our public and internal commitments.

Day to day, you’ll spend your time modernising experiences for colleagues right across BT. You’ll unlock new ways of working for BT colleagues, making it easier to create better value for shareholders and customers. You’ll also manage the strategic planning (people, process, technology, data, costs) of end-to-end persona-based experiences, resulting in improved productivity and collaboration right across BT.


You’ll have proven strategic programme management experience in both traditional and agile environments. Preferably, you’ll have some prior experience practicing agile principles and values. You’ll also have the chance to collaborate with other transformation initiatives.
You’ll lead and manage execution using agile principles with focus on business outcomes, benefits and key results, alongside communications and management of stakeholders. You’ll be measured on financial and non-financial outcomes. You’ll be flexible and adaptable to lead a matrix team to deliver on those outcomes by direct leadership or facilitation. You will have a demonstrable track record of interacting with specialists to produce coherent strategies across multiple technologies. The strategy will help manage risk reduction and improved security posture, with elements of Business benefits analysis and tracking.


The work you’ll do will shape the future of BT’s IT delivery capabilities and ways of working, creating the best opportunities for our people & partnerships, and experiences for customers.

This role will be based in either London or Birmingham with a hybrid working pattern of 3 days a week in office and 2 days a week remote

What you’ll be doing

  • Creates the strategic business case for transformation, including defining the scope, outcomes, problem statements, financials, options/gap analysis and benefits in collaboration with SMEs and key stakeholders
  • Help champion focus on colleague experience amongst stakeholder community
  • You will identify strategic gaps and work with the business to get them resolved by the right people, without losing your own wider view and responsibilities.
  • You will be driving change in your story area at pace, continually asking ‘why?’ and ‘how?’ and using the answers to accelerate our progress
  • You will remove blockers and break down barriers where-ever you encounter them, taking ownership as necessary to ensure timely resolution
  • Drive the team to deliver using strong agile project management skills, including governance optimisation and risks / dependencies
  • Establish and maintain strategic direction & roadmap in partnership with the key stakeholders
  • Aligning with wider change management team, ensuring a joined-up experience for end user
  • Focus on your career development by adopting lean-agile values, principles and behaviours

You'll have the following skills and experience

  • Systems thinking - You provide support to evaluate the impacts and links between structure, people, process and technology. You think through the whole systems context, new perspectives and insight before taking on projects.
  • Strong Stakeholder management, with the ability to hold others to account, align and influence
  • Transformational leadership: able to set a vision, inspire, bring new stimulation, challenge status quo, support and recognise teams as the transformation delivers
  • Storytelling with data by drawing on data and insights, using analytical techniques where appropriate, and distilling technical information to communicate simply to business audiences
