About this role
The Data Science Specialist will perform in depth data integration and provide analysis to improve insight and forecast accuracy for Ethernet Products. The insight will be used to define major targets (e.g. volume, market share, substitution) while supporting key commercial and operational decisions for Openreach.
The commercial demand forecast for Ethernet has a direct and material impact on resourcing decisions, costs and revenue generation, for short, medium, and long term plans. The role holder will work closely with teams across the business, bringing a wealth of in-depth insight not just to understand what has happened, but how the business can prepare for the future.
The Data Science Specialist is expected to provide a range of solid analytically insight and forecast recommendations to support the core demand forecasting process. The role holder will also support input for the development of business cases and sensitivity scenarios, all related to the rapidly changing Ethernet market in a challenging and uncertain economic environment.
You'll have the following responsibilities
• To be seen as the lead within the team for analysis and modelling relating to Ethernet insight
• To develop, build and maintain insight analyses and models to answer critical questions relating to demand and improve understanding of the Ethernet market.
• To share the output of the analysis with the team in a clear and understandable way, enabling it to be used to improve forecasting accuracy and to support commercial and operational decision making.
• To maintain, update and improve the existing suite of models utilised by the team using a number of different analytical programmes and methodologies.
• To gain a good understanding of both the marketplace and the delivery process for products
• Develop Ethernet analysis based on key value drivers and insight
• Build complex model using statistical software (e.g. Python) and database solutions (e.g. GCP), utilising fully the wealth of database knowledge available, presenting outputs to understand trends and to inform improved forecasting
• Proactively identify business areas that will benefit from the development of analysis and modelling techniques
You'll have the following skills & experience
• Expert in coding languages required to interrogate large data sets and identify patterns within the data
• Ability to integrate large data sets while working with incomplete or new data streams
• Communication Skills - Able to present complex data patterns simply to a senior audience while providing recommendations for changes to forecasting methodologies
• Innovative – able to develop statistically robust methods to answer key business questions and improve our understanding of the market. This will included interpretation of geographic variations of demand or performance in areas with various competitive presence
• Personable – creating relationships internally and externally to both gather information and communicate it at the right time to the right person
• Customer focused – understand the key drivers from the customers perspective and how these will ultimately impact demand
• Proven track record of performing advanced statistical analysis and interrogation of large complex data sets
• Able to apply a range of statistical forecasting methodologies and techniques to enhance accuracy.
• Knowledge of statistical software packages as well as expert level in Microsoft Excel
• Very strong business acumen coupled with commercial, analytical, and modelling skills
• Highly organised with ability to manage deliverables on multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
• Graduate Degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Science or IT
