About the role

The Corporate Affairs team is responsible for building and protecting the reputation of BT Group. The team spans Internal and External Communications, Public and Policy Affairs, Responsible Business and content strategy, planning and delivery. We work with the main customer units (Consumer and Business) as well as the technology units (Digital and Networks) and the corporate functions. We maintain close working relationships with BT’s Legal and Regulatory and Competition Policy teams who are the lead with Ofcom and CMA. Given regulatory requirements, Openreach runs its own independent Corporate Affairs function, working closely with our team.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop and deliver proactive corporate communications and media relations activities that support BT Group’s Consumer, Business, and corporate priorities.
  • Create compelling communications materials, messaging, and content for key announcements and strategic initiatives.
  • Support the planning and execution of PR campaigns that showcase BT’s business performance, innovation, and responsible business agenda.
  • Identify and develop newsworthy stories and opportunities that enhance BT Group’s reputation and strategic positioning.
  • Provide communications support and counsel to internal stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor on media and reputational matters.
  • Monitor, manage, and respond to emerging issues, supporting crisis communications and reputation management activities.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with media, analysts, and other external influencers to support BT Group’s communications objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across Corporate Affairs and the wider business to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with BT Group’s strategy.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Proven experience in corporate communications, media relations, and reputation management within a large, complex organisation.
  • Strong strategic communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience in issues and crisis management, including identifying and mitigating reputational risks.
  • Experience developing and delivering impactful communications campaigns across earned, owned, digital, and social channels.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Understanding of financial communications and the ability to simplify complex information for different audiences.
  • Knowledge of media, digital, and social media trends.
  • Experience building relationships with journalists, analysts, and other external influencers.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience developing messaging frameworks, briefing materials, and Q&As.
  • Strong collaborative approach with the flexibility to support wider team objectives.
  • Ability to quickly understand and respond to new or complex issues.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering positive outcomes.
