Why this job matters
As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for winning and growing high-value customer relationships, shaping opportunities from first contact through to contract, and consistently demonstrating that you understand your customers' world. You will lead commercial conversations, working closely with internal stakeholders and leadership to shape compelling propositions, open doors with senior decision-makers across large organisations, and drive end-to-end opportunities from initial outreach through to contract close and expansion.
What you’ll be doing
- Own the end-to-end sales cycle for a portfolio of target accounts, from initial outreach through negotiation and close.
- Proactively open doors into new organisations by researching targets, crafting compelling "hooks," and creating senior-level engagement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with director-level and other senior stakeholders, demonstrating a clear understanding of their business context and priorities.
- Lead complex deal shaping and account planning activities, coordinating internal specialists and stakeholders to deliver a joined-up customer experience.
- Drive a high-value pipeline, typically focused on contracts of £1M+ value, and consistently progress opportunities to forecast and close.
- Clearly articulate and evidence how opportunities were initiated, developed, and won—showing personal ownership and impact rather than order-taking.
Experience Required
- Demonstrable experience in B2B sales/business development, with evidence of initiating and driving deals (not just responding to inbound enquiries).
- You have a telecommunications and/or IT and Technology background
- Experience selling into Manufacturaing, Construction, Utilities, Logistics or Media industries
- Track record of managing and winning large, complex opportunities—typically £1m+ contract values.
- Confidence engaging and building relationships with senior stakeholders (director level and above) in large organisations, including global decision-maker groups.
- Strong commercial and communication skills, with the ability to understand a customer's context and clearly articulate a compelling "hook" for why BT.
- Self-sufficient, proactive approach—able to break into new accounts and progress opportunities without close day-to-day supervision.
DON'T MEET EVERY SINGLE REQUIREMENT?
