Job Description

This role can be based in Birmingham or London following a hybrid working pattern of three days a week in office and two working remotely

About the role

As Assurance Manager – Major Contracts, you’ll play a critical role within BT Group’s Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) function, providing second line assurance across some of the organisation’s most important customer contracts. Operating as a trusted, independent reviewer, you’ll assess risk and control effectiveness across the full contract lifecycle – from early sales and bid activity through delivery, in life management and contract exit. Working in a small, specialist team, you’ll have real ownership and visibility, producing clear, impactful assurance outputs that inform senior leaders and support better decision making. This role offers broad exposure to the business, significant stakeholder engagement, and the opportunity to influence how risk is identified, managed and mitigated across major contracts.

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver second line assurance reviews across the Major Contracts portfolio, assessing control effectiveness and risk exposure
  • Review major customer contracts across the full lifecycle, including bids, handover, delivery, in life management and exit
  • Perform investigations, root cause analysis and data led assessments of contract related risks and operational exceptions
  • Produce clear, concise assurance reports and agreed actions tailored to senior business audiences
  • Partner with business stakeholders, managing challenge and pushback while maintaining independence and credibility
  • Work collaboratively with first line teams and other assurance providers to ensure a consistent, integrated assurance approach
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the annual assurance plan and continuous improvement of assurance activities

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Strong experience in assurance or audit, including delivery of formal assurance assessments
  • Excellent assurance report writing skills, with the ability to communicate clearly at senior level
  • In depth understanding of contract lifecycles and associated commercial, operational and delivery risks
  • Proven ability to manage and influence stakeholders, including handling challenge and resistance

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience working in second or third line assurance within a large, complex organisation
  • Knowledge of GRC frameworks, risk management and control environments
  • Investigation and data analysis skills to support evidence based assurance conclusions
  • Experience auditing or assuring major or complex contracts
