About the role

BT delivers the Public Sector Broadband Aggregation (PSBA) contract on behalf of Welsh Government. The PSBA contract delivers a broad range of managed network and digital services to the majority of public sector organisations across Wales. The role requires regular engagement with a range of stakeholders, including senior leaders and decision makers across key public sector verticals including, Health, Blue Light services, Local Authorities, Education and associated agencies.

A strong understanding of the Welsh public sector landscape, including its operating environment, priorities, and governance structures, is critical. Experience in building trusted relationships and navigating these sectors effectively will be key to driving successful outcomes for the contract and supporting its ongoing evolution.

This role has overall accountability for ensuring BT/PSBA governance is adhered to and risk is managed. As well as driving a great sales experience, this role delivers improved customer experience and directly impacts on the success of the Sales functions within BT Business.

What you’ll be doing

  • Champions the implementation and development of defined strategies driving the origination, qualification and conversion of new opportunities for PSBA organisations across a portfolio of products and services.
  • Supports the development and execution of sales activities within the Welsh Public Sector.
  • Defines, develops, and owns key customer relationships and customer contact strategies.
  • Takes responsibility for developing successful, sustainable, and profitable long-term relationships with vendors across complex hierarchies, including escalation management to the appropriate level.
  • Proactively develops a strong understanding of the Welsh Public Sector marketplace, customer needs, and sector-specific transformation roadmaps. Supports Account Development planning to ensure the wider team accurately reflects the evolving competitive landscape and PSBA’s positioning within it.
  • Collaborates closely with Welsh Government to deliver value, drive innovation, and support customer success.
  • Identifies emerging industry trends and fosters strategic relationships with key vendors and customers to unlock future growth for PSBA and the Public Sector.
  • Builds and ensures the quality of partnership with leadership teams to develop and deliver new business through trust and value-led relationships with the key client stakeholders responsible, owing the primary responsibility with clients.
  • Leads commercial strategies for clients including driving teams in carrying out analysis to identify potential value-creating opportunities, creating compelling business cases and developing requirements to drive successful strategies.
  • Oversees the client assessment portion of strategy engagements, articulating cohesive conclusions and presenting key findings at the executive level.
  • Operates as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within own field of expertise, identifying solutions to complex business problems where analysis of situations requires an in-depth knowledge of organisational objectives.
  • Accountability for the New Sales elements of the PSBA P&L.
  • Collaborates with the wider Wales public sector team to support the Head of Wales to develop current and future team capabilities and ensure performance.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Experience working within the Welsh public sector landscape (Health, Local Government, Education, Blue Light)
  • Strong track record of leading and developing high value accounts, with responsibility for revenue streams in excess of £1m.
  • Experience of identifying and converting growth opportunities within an existing customer base.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with senior stakeholders (Director/Executive level).
  • Experience working within large-scale managed service environments.
  • Ability to manage operational escalations and drive resolution across complex delivery teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex messages for senior audiences

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Good understanding of networking, connectivity and digital infrastructure services
  • Awareness of emerging technologies (e.g. cloud, AI, cyber security) and their application in public sector contexts
  • Strong financial acumen, including P&L awareness and cost control
