Job Description

Job Title: Wind Tunnel Group Leader

Location: Warton– 4 days working in the office

Salary: £54,793 + Dependent upon skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead Operation and Project Supervision teams

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the wind tunnel facility, ensuring that it operates efficiently and meets the facility plan deadlines

  • Provide technical guidance to Operations Engineers and Project Supervisor teams and tackle technical testing issues, related to wind tunnel operations, as required

  • Act as a focal point for customer groups operating within the Low Speed Wind Tunnel

  • Ensure projects are adhering to QMS guidance

  • Support project management teams and the Engineering manager on monitoring and reporting on progress of engineering tasks within the Low Speed Wind Tunnel

  • Support and nurture career aspirations of Engineers within your team and ensure team members are developing as expected within their role.

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Experience running teams in an operational environment

  • Experience with Aero Mechanical testing

  • Understanding of Governance and Assurance in operational test environments

  • People management experience

    Desirable:

  • Experience in Facilities Management

  • Aeronautical / Aerospace Degree

The Wind Tunnel Design Team:

The Wind Tunnel environment within Design, Development, Test and Evaluation (DDT&E) at BAE Systems is a fast-paced shared service team that delivers high-quality aerodynamic testing and development across multiple aircraft programmes. Supporting both internal and international projects, the team manages short lifecycle engineering activities that require rapid design, manufacture and testing of models under tight deadlines. Working at the intersection of diverse engineering disciplines, including aerodynamics, mechanical design, instrumentation and data analysis, the Wind Tunnel capability enables quick turnaround performance validation and risk reduction. This collaborative environment plays a vital role in informing design decisions, refining computational models and ensuring the success of BAE Systems’ advanced air platforms.
