Project Finance Analyst

Salary:  £0 – £35,000 per annum

Job Description

Job Title: Project Finance Analyst

Location: Rochester, Kent

Salary: Up to £35,000 depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting the full project lifecycle — from project setup through to closure, ensuring all financial processes (like cash collection and closing bookings) are done accurately and on time
  • Managing the finances for a portfolio of projects — from small, short-term initiatives to large, multi-year programmes covering support, development, and production.
  • Setting financial forecasts quarterly by gathering input from project teams, then tracking performance against them and reporting on variances — explaining why costs or profits are above or below expectations
  • Helping teams understand their budgets, costs, profitability, and forecasts — while spotting risks and opportunities early
  • Challenging assumptions constructively to help improve financial performance and guide better decision-making
  • Producing clear financial reports and analysis to support smart decision-making
  • Collaborating daily with project managers and regularly with senior leaders, commercial, procurement, and finance teams
  • Suggesting improvements to how we work — from spotting inefficiencies to streamlining reporting processes

Your skills and experiences:

  • Experience or education in Accounting or Finance, or related field
  • Confident Excel user including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs
  • Skilled at communicating clearly with diverse stakeholders
  • Naturally curious and eager to learn — no defense experience needed, but you’re eager to pick things up quickly

Benefits:

As well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE Systems also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts – you may also be eligible for an annual incentive.

The team:

We’re looking for a motivated Project Finance Analyst to join our friendly, fast-paced finance team within the Electronic Systems division of BAE Systems. You’ll play a key role in supporting a diverse portfolio of projects — from niche, specialised programs to large-scale initiatives of national and strategic importance, working closely with project managers and teams to ensure projects stay on budget and financially healthy.

You don’t need to be an expert in defense or engineering – what we care about is someone with a good understanding of finance, strong Excel skills, and the confidence to work with different types of people to solve problems, spot opportunities and ensure effective financial control.

Why BAE Systems?

This is a place where you’ll be able to make a real difference. You’ll be part of an inclusive culture that values diversity of thought, rewards integrity, and merit, and where you’ll be empowered to fulfil your potential. We welcome people from all backgrounds and want to make sure that our recruitment processes are as inclusive as possible. If you have a disability or health condition (for example dyslexia, autism, an anxiety disorder etc.) that may affect your performance in certain assessment types, please speak to your recruiter about potential reasonable adjustments.

Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

Closing Date: 25th June 2025

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.
