Job Description

Job Title: HR Advisor

Location: Portsmouth Naval Base (part-time, 21 hours onsite across 3 office days)

Salary: Up to £28,500 (Full -time equivalent £50,000) dependent on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

As a key member of the People function, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting employees, managers and HR colleagues across a dynamic project‑driven environment. You will:

  • Act as a trusted first point of contact for employees and HR colleagues within your specialist area
  • Manage and resolve a wide range of people queries, ensuring timely and reliable outcomes
  • Provide operational HR advice, guiding managers on day‑to‑day people matters
  • Take a lead role in a unionised environment on Employee Relations cases, including handling disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, performance concerns and supporting managers with sensitive people issues
  • Coach and influence line managers to build their confidence and capability in managing people effectively
  • Support the monitoring of key people metrics and maintain accurate data within HR information systems
  • Work closely with Senior and non-senior HR Leads, HR Partners and Associates to deliver consistent and effective HR support
  • Use your comprehensive knowledge of people processes and company policies to help drive positive outcomes and support business priorities

Your skills and experiences:

  • Proven expertise in Employee Relations, including case management, investigations, disciplinaries, grievances and coaching managers
  • CIPD qualified or actively working towards a relevant accreditation
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build trusted, professional relationships at all levels
  • Proficient across Microsoft Office with confident digital literacy
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and effectively
