Role Description

As a Functional Data Analyst within the Hunter Program, you’ll be the crucial link between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams. You’ll translate real business needs into powerful data solutions, build analytics that drive decision‑making, and help shape the data foundations that support one of Australia’s most significant defence programs.

This role blends business analysis, data analytics, reporting, and data engineering coordination – perfect for someone who loves solving problems, improving processes, and turning complex information into meaningful insights.

The job location is flexible, it can be Melbourne or SA (Flinders Street) based. We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.

Core Duties:

  • Business and Functional Analysis: Engage with business stakeholders to gather, analyse, and document business and data requirements. Translate business needs into functional specifications, user stories, and technical requirements. Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and data-driven decision making.
  • Data Analytics and Reporting: Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualisations using analytics platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools. Analyse business performance trends and provide actionable insights to stakeholders. Ensure reports and dashboards align with business KPIs and governance standards
  • Data Engineering and Management Work closely with data engineers and architects to support the design and implementation of data pipelines and data models. Assist in defining data mapping, transformation logic, and integration requirements. Support data ingestion, cleansing, validation, and quality monitoring processes. Contribute to data governance, metadata management, and master data initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with operational teams, project managers, developers, and executives to deliver analytics outcomes.
  • Governance and Continuous Improvement: Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy requirements. Support testing, defect resolution, and user acceptance activities. Contribute to continuous improvement of analytics frameworks, standards, and delivery processes.

About YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, data modelling, and ETL/ELT concepts.
  • Experience with reporting and visualisation tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Qlik.
  • Strong SQL and data analysis skills.
  • Experience working with enterprise systems such as ERP, PLM, CRM, or operational systems.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly language.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Experience working in Agile or project delivery environments
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NV1 security clearance.
