Job Title: Engineering Specialist – Software Assurance

Location: Scotstoun, Filton & Broadoak, remote -depending upon business needs

Salary: Up to £70k depending upon skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

As part of the RCD Software Assurance Team, you will provide independent assurance across the software development lifecycle, ensuring software products, processes and deliverables meet quality, safety, security and regulatory requirements. Working closely with systems engineers, suppliers and key stakeholders, you will support assurance activities, identify and mitigate risks, and promote best practices. Your work will help deliver robust software solutions that support critical defence capabilities and the successful integration of world-class naval platforms.

Core duties:

  • Provide independent software assurance across all software elements of the delivered platform.
  • Assure software supplied by vendors and partners, ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and project requirements.
  • Act as the project’s Software Assurance Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Support all engineering activities related to software as and when required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable organisational, customer, regulatory, safety, security, and industry standards.

Essential skills:

  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, development lifecycles and assurance practices across both developed and procured software.
  • Knowledge of safety related, safety critical and secure software in complex systems, ideally within defence or similarly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with software assurance standards, ISO 12207, MIL-STD-882E, legal and regulatory frameworks, including configuration management, export control, licensing and IP considerations.
  • Understanding of data structures, information architectures and engineering toolchains that support software development, assurance and lifecycle management.
  • Degree-qualified (in a relevant subject), a Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) and a member of an appropriate professional institution

The River Class Destroyer Software Assurance Team:

The RCD Software Assurance Team supports the successful delivery of the River Class Destroyer programme by providing independent assurance across the software development lifecycle. Working closely with systems engineers, suppliers and stakeholders, the team ensures software products, processes and deliverables meet required standards for quality, safety, security and regulatory compliance. Through a collaborative and proactive approach, the team helps deliver robust software solutions that contribute to critical defence capabilities and the successful integration of world-class naval platforms.
