Anglian Water offers a flexible approach; this role gives you the flexibility to work from home and from either our Huntingdon or Lincoln office.

Lead the Digital Infrastructure That Keeps Anglian Water Moving

We’ve brought together our Platform, Infrastructure, Network and Site Reliability Engineering teams under a single leadership role. That gives the role real scope, to shape how the teams work together, improving reliability, developing technical capability and setting a clear direction for the platforms our business depends on. As Senior Engineering Manager, Platforms and Infrastructure, you’ll lead the teams responsible for secure, resilient and high-performing services, while building a culture focused on ownership, operational excellence and continuous improvement.

What you’ll be doing

As our Senior Engineering Manager, Platforms and Infrastructure, you’ll be at the heart of Anglian Water’s hybrid infrastructure, ensuring our platforms and networks are secure, scalable, and high performing, including:

  • Lead platform strategy and delivery - defining and managing the hybrid infrastructure roadmap, balancing in-house and managed service capabilities, and embedding automation-first, resilient design from the start.

  • Build relationships - developing outcome focused relationships with Architecture, Security and Product teams and our strategic technology partners.

  • Ensure operational reliability and service-aware operations - overseeing Site Reliability Engineering, uptime, performance, and proactive observability to reduce operational risk and toil, and enable self-healing platforms.

  • Develop people - leading, coaching and developing high-performing teams, while building capability across the function.

  • Champion continuous improvement and transformation - driving DevOps, automation, and modern Cloud engineering practises, identifying opportunities to reduce cost and complexity, and fostering a culture of learning, experimentation, and safe challenge for all.

This role gives you the opportunity to shape the future of Anglian Water’s digital infrastructure while driving innovation, reliability, and operational excellence across all our platforms and networks.

As a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to:

  • Full private healthcare with no excess

  • 26 days leave, rising with service + Bank Holidays, with the option to swap Christmas and Easter holidays for those celebrated by your religion

  • A flexible working culture

  • Competitive pension scheme – we double-match your contributions up to 7%

  • Life Assurance at eight times your salary

  • Personal Accident cover – up to 5x your salary

  • Bonus Scheme

What does it take to be the Senior Engineering Manager, Platforms and Infrastructure

You’ll be an experienced engineering leader who enjoys developing people, solving complex challenges and creating the environment where your teams can thrive. You’ll be comfortable balancing strategic thinking with operational delivery and influencing across technical and business-focused teams.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience leading platform, infrastructure or cloud engineering teams

  • Experience of managing engineering managers

  • Strong understanding of hybrid infrastructure, cloud technologies and modern engineering practises

  • Experience improving operational resilience and service reliability

  • Knowledge of DevOps, SRE and IaC principles

  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g. Azure, AWS, ITIL, SRE) (desirable)

  • Degree in a technology or computing discipline (desirable)

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to shape the future of Platform and Infrastructure Engineering at Anglian Water. You’ll lead talented teams, influence engineering strategy, and play a core role in delivering the digital platforms that support the services our customers rely on. If you’re looking for a role where you can make a lasting impact through technical leadership, people development and engineering excellence in a purpose driven organisation, then we’d love to hear from you.
