We're looking for a Configuration Engineer to join Anglian Water's Operations Planning and Scheduling team, helping maintain and improve the scheduling and mobile solutions used by our field and scheduling colleagues every day.

These business-critical systems support how operational work is planned, prioritised and delivered across our region. In this role, you'll turn operational needs into well-designed system changes, configure and test enhancements, and ensure every release supports safe, reliable and efficient services for customers and the environment.

Working in an Agile environment, you'll collaborate with operational users, technical specialists, developers and application vendors to understand problems, assess impact and deliver improvements without compromising performance. This is a hands-on opportunity to combine configuration, analysis, testing and stakeholder engagement while influencing how technology supports operational excellence.

What you'll be doing:

  • Work with users, subject matter experts and business teams to define issues, identify root causes and shape improvement opportunities

  • Configure approved changes and enhancements within scheduling and mobile applications in line with technical governance and coding standards

  • Carry out impact analysis to ensure proposed changes deliver value without reducing service performance or resilience

  • Scope configuration work, estimate delivery effort and support the prioritisation of sprint and backlog activity

  • Prepare clear cost and benefit recommendations for governance approval

  • Translate complex or unclear requirements into practical configuration solutions and understandable options

  • Test application upgrades and enhancements against agreed scripts, specifications and change management controls

  • Work with developers, technical teams and application vendors to diagnose faults, interpret test results and implement resolutions

  • Monitor completed enhancements to confirm expected benefits are delivered and recommend further changes where needed

  • Review configuration, processes and system performance to identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve customer service and manage environmental risk

  • Build strong relationships with field teams, schedulers, operational leaders, Digital, Data and Technology colleagues and suppliers

  • Keep up to date with technology and product developments to make effective use of new functionality

What we're looking for

  • Educated to A-level standard or equivalent experience

  • Strong IT capability, with experience using SAP, Oracle and Microsoft applications

  • Strong data analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and identify trends and insights.

  • Strong Excel skills, with experience using Excel to analyse and present information.

  • Proven ability to design, build and maintain reports and dashboards that provide clear and meaningful performance information.

  • Ability to communicate data and insights clearly to support business decision-making.

  • Experience configuring, supporting or improving business-critical applications or digital products

  • Experience of application testing, change control and working to defined technical governance

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to different audiences

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and confidence gaining agreement across operational and technical teams

  • Ability to organise priorities, make sound decisions and deliver accurately to tight deadlines

  • Initiative, adaptability and a constructive approach to working independently and as part of a team

  • Flexibility to support operational events when required

Desirable:

  • Degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related analytical discipline is desirable, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

  • Experience developing automated or self-service reporting solutions

  • Experience working in an operational planning, scheduling, mobility or field-service environment

  • Business analysis experience, including requirements gathering and benefit assessment

  • Experience working within Agile delivery methods and sprint-based prioritisation

  • Knowledge of water or water recycling operations and operational risk

Why join Anglian Water?
